Our living and dining room is painted Nantucket Grey (BM), which reads as soft green in most light and goes with everything. It's warmer than pure gray and feels very nurturing. Paint Color Portfolio: Green Living Rooms |

I would paint the trim around the windows and the bottom of the window seat white, leave the panelling as is, change the carpet as others have suggested, use some throw rugs, put up some great artwork, hang some natural white linen curtains, put coordinated linen bedding on the beds and perhaps introduce some colour by painting the dresser and reupholster the cushion on the window seat in a solid and coordinated colour. You don't ned to paint at all -- and in 15 years people will want the wood again! Help My Mom Decide: The Great Wood Paneling Debate |

51desks and englishdaffodil, I was just going to recommend Maria Killam of Colour Me Happy as well. I'm also a fan and reading her blog prevented me from making some costly mistakes. I used her tips to pick five coordinated paint colours for my space and did not regret a single choice. 4 Things To Consider When Picking A Wall Color |

I would add another key point to consider: the undertones of the largest surfaces in your space. Like the floor, but also your cabinets, your countertop. Say you're going to paint a beigy-brown colour. If your wall paint has clashing undertones with some other large piece, you'll be sorry. I made sure that my kitchen paint colour (Tyler Taupe) had the same yellow undertones as my floor, countertop and backsplash and it all looks great. Before the paint colour was beige with pinky undertones and it looked hideous. 4 Things To Consider When Picking A Wall Color |

For the kitchen, stick with small changes until you can do a full well thought out reno. A new butcher block counter stained dark with a new sink would be an improvement. Check out Shades of Light for great, modern, reasonably priced flushmount ceiling lights. I agree that the pink tile in the bathroom would not be a problem if the walls were painted in a colour like gray and the cabinets were lightened up with white paint.
