thorndale, i really disliked the carpet when we bought the house (it's in all three of the bedrooms on the second floor... you can see more at tearinguphouses.blogspot.com ), but decided we'd keep it in the nursery until aston is a bit older, when i figured we'd expose the hardwoods underneath. to my surprise, though, it's grown on me in his room. the softness and quality are really nice.

lindarae, this is how it looked before we bought the house. those are the seller's beds. and yellow paint.

london... the stools came from an old print shop. the island is ikea.

rmbnn... the painting is my husband lying down with his feet propped up. the metal storage bin holds the dogs' food.

ladyfish... the stovetop is perpendicular to the sink on the left.

rural... i should also mention that the sign was made from salvaged wood from the original kitchen built in 1929.

kathie... it was actually quite a tiny, challenging, and awkward space! i had to work with what i had!

kristen... are we not having the best weather finally?! i want to be outside all. day. long.

taylor... it's a tricky color that looks very different throughout the day due to lighting.

judy... we made the shelving with pine planks cut to fit wall to wall. we stained them with two coats of cabot polystain in dark oak and had them hung with ikea black painted brackets. andrew filled in the screw holes with black caulk for a more finished look.

rural... at the end of our street is the saint john's river which leads into the atlantic ocean. also, those are commerical summit refrigeration units, not cabinetry. i could see why you would think that, though!
