We have one 1947 peach and black tile bathroom in the house. I bought black paint for the upper walls then left the can sitting there for... years. I finally gathered the guts to paint, and it looks *fantastic*.

Sadly, this doesn't work. We (house, not apt) registered awhile ago and still receive the books. Huge bummer.

I just finished a batch of the sweet potato dinner rolls as well and they are intensely delicious. Resisting the urge to eat many.

Oh man, you are speaking my language! A can of black beans is my go-to for dinner... embarrassingly, almost every night of the week.

The main ingredients are always the same - black beans, chopped garlic, lime juice, tabasco, salsa verde, and tons of fresh cilantro. Sometimes I mix in sauteed zucchini, sometimes brown rice (pre-cooked, separated into portions, frozen). If I add in zucchini or rice, divide the mass into two and save one for lunch the next day. If not, mash half the beans and mix into a delicious mess.

Top with a poached egg or two, some more hot sauce, and dinner is ready.

Black beans + salsa verde + cilantro + egg may be the greatest flavor combo in the world.

Cars - Grimace & Vinnie. Laptops - Henry & Patrick. iPhones - Flat Stanley & Rocco. iPods - Chuck & Giles.

Clearly, I have issues :(

I posted about this here before and received so many questions/comments that I'll say it again --

Macy's Corona sofa comes in a sectional setup.

They never seem to advertise it on their site and it was an absolute BEAR to special order from the factory, but they finally made it happen and its amazing.

I think more people should know about it. Its really a fantastic sofa.

I've managed to get everything but Crime & Punishment and Madame Bovary, as others mentioned. I just got a shipment from Amazon this week. When I pulled off the sticker on the back, some of the print was removed. I was pretty upset, then realized that $13.50 is exceptionally reasonable for such beautiful books, and I'm reading them, not just looking at them, so wear will happen eventually. They're worth every penny in my eyes.

Another vote for Macy's Corona sofa!

I really wanted a sectional (well, sofa chaise, not traditional sectional) but thought there was no way I could afford one in a style I liked. Macy's Annual Furniture sale came around and I went to visit the Corona... turns out, it comes in a chaise layout! They never seem to advertise it on their site and it was an absolute BEAR to special order from the factory, but they finally made it happen and its amazing.

I think more people should know about it. Its really a fantastic sofa.

I leave water glasses everywhere. Everywhere. They only ever have water in them, so I don't discover scary things growing in them when I go on a hunt to find everything before doing dishes.

I also leave my kitchen/bathroom cupboard doors open. all.the.time. I finally realized that I do it and tried to stop... still happens.

Thankfully, no one else has to deal with my bad habits.

I bought an off brand charger for my Powerbook G4 and it totally destroyed my battery life and fried the computer all together. Thankfully I was within 1 month of my Apple Care expiration and they fixed everything. I'm back to using the OEM charger now.

I have the bottom set in both the greens & blues. While cute, they are incredibly inaccurate. I did a test run and compared with my normal measuring cups - nottttttt even close. They fancy up my windowsill nicely though.

This is really lovely. It reminds me of urban outfitters meets anthropologie, and I mean that in the best way possible. Lots of girly touches and bright colors and I just adore the bright white everywhere. Beautiful place.

Detroit is in such a sad state (no pun intended). I desperately want to buy a home in one of the historical neighborhoods and recently went so far as to go out with an agent, but as the poster before said, they've been vacant for so long that they're just falling apart. They feel like living things that are dying before your eyes.

Plus, in most cases, the houses have been absolutely stripped - plumbing, radiators, sinks, toilets, fireplace facades, ornate windows, even door knobs and hinges - all gone. Countless homes are squatter occupied. I watch the listings in a few specific areas and the price will suddenly plummet one day, followed by "currently squatter occupied" as the opening line to the listing. So tragic.

There are SO many homes that sold for $400k only a few years ago and are now on the market for something like $65k.. but they also require massive sums of money to repair - theres ZERO plumbing and fixtures, ZERO wiring or remnants of an electrical system, archaic heating methods and, even then, the boiler has likely been removed and sold for scrap. At the same time, the city is so desperate for money that tax incentives aren't coming to entice people to the area. Some areas are "NEZ eligible" but current residents indicate that the "tax break" is a pathetic 6% or less.. so you're paying taxes on a $400k home thats literally unlivable in the current state. Unless you have a way to sustain a $400k mortgage to pay for restoration of the home - while maintaining your current residence, because the market is too saturated to sell your own home - theres just no way to afford repairing these masterpieces.

Gah! I could go on and on. Its frustrating and incredibly sad.
