Newbies. Pay little heed to that interesting list of what worked. Try anything you like. He said carrots didn't work but i'm still working my way through the tasty bucket of carrots we got from our roof (5 gallons ). Its the soil. We just used found soil with manure, he is using a special (probably expensive) mix. We even managed to grow a few opo (italian squash) about 5 feet long! ONly got 1 per plant but hey, what a sight.

Roof guy's comments are very germane. Too much hype in this field. Too much gummerment subsidy. Benefits overstated, especially by naive greenies who do not appreciate the cost of going overboard. The ONLY reason to garden on your roof is because you want to and because you are willing to take some risk, do the work, etc., not because some working stiff works his butt off to pay taxes so you can get paid to have an expensive toy you just want because this is a hot, sexy topic these days.
