Affordable Decor: Smart Ways to Use Wallpaper in Small Doses

This is a great and timely post that I linked to over at my blog, especially given the current tv program Million Dollar Decorators. In my opinion, that show is so far from reality that it is a huge disservice to the design industry. If it was a cartoon, it would be South Park's take on the design industry.

Thanks for telling it like it is and , as always, for the sound advice.

I did a design history post on my blog today. It coincidentally was on polka dots! I show a room from the mid 1700's with polka dots painted on the wall, among other shots. I just added a link to your post in my comment section. (with credit of course). Unbelievable.

I highly recommend a trip to Stamford, CT. Take exit 7 off the 95. There are several antique warehouses. Most of their websites are way out of date, so you really need to go to see what they have. Here is a list from least expensive to more expensive. For the real down and out piece that you are willing to put some effort in to fix up, try John's Antiques. Super cheap prices, so the work can be worth it. Sometimes you hit the jackpot with a great item that is perfect as it. The other Stamford dealers shop there for new stock. Across the street is a favorite, Hiden Galleries. great stuff from all eras and not to $$$$. At around the same price point is the Antiques and Artisan's Gallery. Hamptons Antique Gallery mentioned above is some what more expensive. Habor View Antiques is at the top of the heap. Irwin Feld has mid century modern. He has some booths at Hiden plus a large gallery on Pacific Street. You can google all of these names for directions. I review a few in my blog. Have fun!! Lynn

Loved these inspirational photos. I have an old Victorian server with a marble surface and I plan to set it up as a cocktail station when I have my house photographed (i am a designer). Always great to see how others have done it.! Lynn

Worried about giving you a url because I had my hand slapped but seriously, I tought comments were supposed to expand the discussion. I never was off topic.
In this case, a sale you featured prominently in this post is already over. The one mentioned is the David Stark Purely Paper Flower Shoppe. It only lasted 2 days. Thursday and Friday. If you missed it, I took lots of photos and they are on my blog for the Friday, May 14 post.

David Stark is super creative and just looking at his creations are worthwhile, so now those who missed the sale can see highlights.
Hope you are not mad about the link. Lynn

Oly Studios has a great rustic coffee table, called the pee wee cocktail table. The slab of wood on the top is truly organic in feel--Very natural, like a Nakashima sensibility towards the wood. Here is a link, but I am not sure the picture does it total justice. http://www.olystudio.com/products/tables/pdf/pee%20wee%20cocktail.pdf.

Another great open vanity at http://decorartsnow.com/2010/03/08/march-8-2010-diary-of-a-bathroom-renovation-before/
This one has a bottom shelf for storage as well as a rail to hang hand towels. To hide stuff, don't forget baskets. Lynn

I would run from anything screaming "right on trend". Hate being a copy cat. Soooooo glad I never bought a "Keep Calm" poster even thought I loved it when I first saw it. Same with those train schedules......run away, don't walk.

I don't think the patterns are original, just a new creative expression used to update the chair. Can look smashing. Here is a link from designer Victoria Klein's website for another great looking chair. http://www.victoriaklein.com/images/portfolio/2pl/2.jpg
