I support the expansion to 850 sq ft. Yes, it is large in the city (I live in DC now), but I'm from Nebraska, and studios there are pretty uncommon. Most people I know there live in 1 or 2 BR's, or small houses, and shoot, if I could get a 2 BR for $650/mo like you can get there, I would move to a "huge" place like that! They shouldn't be penalized in other areas of the country just because they can live in a 2BR for the price of a closet in East Coast cities. Next year, sub-dividing may be a good option.

Glad to see there's a couple other Washingtonians here! I would say the new Target is busy, but not necessarily crowded or crazy (I've been twice!). They do a good job of having a lot of check-out lines open, so things stay moving.

Holly, where is Garden District? There's a couple of garden stores on 14th, but I don't know the names of them. And I'm curious to know what you found out about edible plants that grow in low light. I live in a basement, and there's one window that gets a crack of sunlight, but it's not much. Would like to know if growing anything is possible.

My digital camera is out of commission, so I won't be able to post pics for a while, but I did establish my Outbox already. Just imagine a square yard of stuff piled anywhere from 1 to 3 feet off the ground. Since in my apt the office, living room, and kitchen are essentially one room, I may try to combine some weeks. Given the small size of the place, I thought the Outbox would make the whole apartment look like a tornado swept through it, but I've found that keeping all my crap contained to one corner actually allowed the rest of the apartment to look cleaner. I even had dinner guests and they didn't even notice the Outbox right away.

The curtain is a chain-link bamboo curtain from Ikea, and I've since fixed it so it doesn't hang down over the couch. The floors bug me as well, which is why I was planning on getting the area rug to cover the whole living room space. Also, while there is not much natural light, with my lamps and the recess lights, the place is pretty well lit and doesn't feel super cave-y. Thanks for your input. I do like the one suggestion of maybe just painting the picture wall brown, and getting picture frames w/ white mats to pop the pictures. How's that?
