i'm a huge fan of easyclosets.com. It looks the same as California Closets and is about 1/3 of the price. When redoing our closets, I compared similar layouts with the elfa systems, and even when elfa was on sale the easyclosets were the same price. And they look way better than elfa. Their customer service is amazing too.

Also, easyclosets are really flexible. The previoius owner of our apartment had it, and their configuration didn't suit our needs. I called the company, they pulled up the design file, and we ordered shelves where they had hanging, etc, and we had the pieces in a day or two. Very awesome. Oh, and when I did a renovation on the apartment, we took apart the system and were able to reuse most of the parts (mostly verticals) in a new configuration, just by ordering shelves/hanging rods of different widths.

Oh, and we have the rocker shown in that photo and it's the comfiest thing ever. Such a good investment. We put our money into that rather than a fancy crib - our comfort at 3am was more important.

I have an Eames Aluminum Side Chair which has a broken "slide" thingy on the bottom of one leg. I wish I could A) figure out how to get the stump out and B) know what size of stem it had so I could put the chair on casters. I'd love it to have wheels!

I love the OXO ones with the pop-top - get them at container store. Lots of sizes, they stack, they're awesome.

On-site digitizing sounds ideal.
David Pogue of the NYTimes wrote an article not too long ago about digital archiving, and told a cautionary tale of a wharehouse/scanning facility that was destroyed in a fire, along with all the photos in it that people had mailed to them.

I regularly burn off my digital photos onto CD and store them in a safe deposit box at the bank. It was suggested to me that burning them onto gold discs will last longer, as CDs can break down over time.

High gloss paint in a bright color. Robin's egg blue or orange or something fun like that.

It's not a bad piece. It's not top craftsmanship for sure, but it's only $400.

We have been looking at it and are considering buying it - it's perfect for our needs. I emailed an image of it to a millworker that our office works with & he thought it would cost them about $1500 to make something similar.

So it may not be solid hardwoods, but it's kind of a good deal.
