Option A for sure. And I would make that island a bit wider and give it some seating.

It's hard to tell if you have room, but what about throwing in an old white farmhouse style island? Or maybe even red, just something with character to draw away from the sea of oak. I like the idea of an old Oriental rug as well.

And to break up some of that wood, maybe hang a chalkboard on the side panel next to the oven/microwave area. Lean a white marble cutting board against the side of the corner appliance garage.

Chrome or stainless hardware - maybe cup pulls and handles that are Restoration Hardware style.

Paint the walls a deep charcoal gray.
Ditch the wavy thing. Get a canvas or linen roman shade for the window.

Yes, replace the ceiling fan... With maybe a schoolhouse light, or a fun painted chandelier in red, or maybe green?

and finally add a little herb garden in the window. :)

send after photos!!!

I have this clipping in my design faves notebook. I like the other half of the room too, with, I think it was ~ a gold mirror, which is inpired by her jewelry. I love this look - mixing the rough and casual, with the classy details.

Unlikely Resource for Bedding: The Army Navy Store

i'm with bepsf. hotel style.

I have many different simple basic sets of sheets and various blankets to layer up . I don't like the bedding to be fussy or too patterned. It should be utilitarian. The items in the room that dictate the style should be furniture, lamps, artwork, drapes, etc. And please ~ only pillows that can be used to lay your head upon.

I think there are plenty of 'wide' shots in here - it is just a small space, so you can't get too far from things. Also, I think there is 1 desk and the room has been photographed with the bed down and the bed up which creates 2 different arrangements with the desk being constant. My question is: where do the chairs live when the bed is used??

I love the black as a neutral backdrop. And I really like alot of the furnishings, but will someone please tell me how you keep a fluffy rug like that CLEAN?

Yep, looks fantastic. I painted all my kitchen cabinets too and it is no small task! It is so impressive that you got this done in a relatively short amount of time - and with kids! I think it took me like 3 months with no kids. :)

It looks great! - I do think the charcoal on bottom made the biggest difference.

"I think it would be a great idea if it overhung the breakfast bar about 6" or so, this way you can add stool seating underneath"

You need more like 18-24" to comfortably sit at a breakfast bar. There is not sufficient space for this.

The charcoal idea on the bottom is nice because it will help blend the black appliances, which seem to stick out a bit in the PS version. I also vote to keep the doors on the top cabinets.

Should I Paint My Dark Kitchen Cabinets?

I'd go with a heavily textured medium warm gray. I think it will contrast nicely with the chocolate frame of the chair. But, if your looking for a pop of color, I'd agree that we need more information about the environment.

Keep it - change the light fixture instead... with something more classic like a schoolhouse pendant.

Beautifully written. It's definitely a love/hate situation. Always makes me a little sad the first night in a new place, all the while excited at the possibilities..Full of ideas and plans, but how much time will pass before it feels like home?

Yes, the Ikea shelves are definitely delicate. I don't think they claim to hold very much weight either.

I'd have them custom made, if you're going to need them to hold plates and such.

Do not paint them dark brown. It will look too much like you are trying to mimic dark stained wood and not getting it right. Black would be great!
I also think a charcoal or slate color would contrast brilliantly with those rich floors!!!
Definitely add some trim around those drawers under the stair. Those are such a good use of the space, but they need to feel more cohesive and less random.
Beautiful room to work with!
