@KBAGEL: With jams, you usually want to leave a quarter inch of headspace between the top of the jam and the rim of the jar. Hope that helps!

I love everything about this room, truly. The little-old-man vibe is so charming and just brimming with personality (and, even better, the personality of actual family members). I'm not sure when it was decided that all babies must be into pastels, but this is a welcome change of pace!

For the reader who was worried about hanging things over the crib: It seems in the last shot that the crib is actually pulled out 6-12 in. from the wall, so there's nothing directly overhead. Looks safe to me...

Wild -- I was just flipping through a Pottery Barn catalog this morning when I saw their "Parat mirrors" (http://goo.gl/f23KZ): essentially, the $79 version of your DIY mirror bowls. Well done you!

Absolutely. I moved twice like this -- once to the building next door, once around the corner on the same block -- and both times the increase in the quality of living was well worth the short-term hassle of another move.

I'd disagree with those who say that shorter moves are the easiest, though: In fact, I'd say they were harder, specifically because I fell into that "it's just next door!" mindset. As a result, I underestimated the amount of work it would be (even though you still have to move the same amount of stuff!), didn't get enough help, didn't rent a big enough truck, didn't leave myself enough time, etc. Making all those "short trips" drove me crazier than the move to a different city, where everything went in one trip in the truck.

So yes -- do it, but as others have suggested, plan it like you would any major move. Good luck!

Saw this paper -- "Daydream" -- in yellow at Dooce.com; it's by Julia Rothman, via Hygge and West: http://www.hyggeandwestshop.com/products/julia-rothman-for-hygge--west/

Lovely!

Glad someone mentioned Second Chance in Baltimore -- I was there recently, and they have a ton of pews to choose from. Of course, they generally have a ton of everything to choose from... AT readers in the area should really check it out.
