I love this, only I would do 1 wall. I actually like the uncompleted look since I don't think I ever finished a paint by numbers. I would bet that an overhead projector would make the transfer part go much quicker. Before & After: Paint-By-Number Wall Mural |

We get movies from our local library. They have current movies and even tv/cable show sets. We might be a season behind, but it's saved us tons of money! Apartment Therapy Unplugged | Which Home Technology Service Would You Cut First? |

i personally see nothing wrong with books as decoration. are they only to go in your 'library'? i have my favorites out in the living areas to encourage guests to peruse them and coincidently the covers and subjests go with my decor. your decor reflects your tastes and likes so why wouldn't books fall in that category as well. if you happen to have an extensive collection why not group them by color and get an extra punch out of them. i'm not for books strickly as a decorative element by which i mean someone buys books they think are stylish and fan them out on the coffee table for status. but if you own them because you love them why not show them off? i like the picture railing as opposed to a book shelf for storage and showcasing. i like to put my favorite books in the common spaces and the covers tend to go with my decor anyway, why not use them as art as well? Apartment Therapy - Look! Books-as-art-as-colorblocks! |

oh mmadden. my boyfriend had the college pad with ugly second hand furniture, picture of sexy chick on the wall and big screen tv. since i've moved in we've painted, installed hardwood floor and gotten better second hand furniture. but i felt like everything decorating the house was mine, so i got his old star wars toys and displayed them on a shelf in the living room. i got this sponge one time in my continuing efforts to be more naturale and it works as well as a sponge can be expected. while i appreciate the effort to make the packing more purposeful, the birdfeeder isn't very practical. it's a small pattern you cut out and assemble with tabs and such. just putting the box outside with some seed in it is much easier to do. :) Apartment Therapy - Twist Loofah Sponge#comments |

this seems kind of weird to me. i understand a need for therapy pets like for nursing homes or shut ins. yet who needs a pet fix enough to pay a membership? i agree with what you said about borrowing a friend's pet. this way you get your fix and are doing a service for your friend by petsitting. another thought is how do the animals do with being shuttled around from house to house. don't pets need a place to call their own? our pets miss us when we leave and jump for joy when we get home. how does a dog do that has no real owner? this sounds, at first glance, more like pets as a status symbol or commodity and not as a companion. i just moved into my boyfirned's home and after 10 years, he hadn't done anything to it. it looked like a college dude house with hand me down, mismatched furniture and stained carpet. i have been slowly fixing his place up in baby steps so as not to freak him out and it's been going pretty well since we just painted and installed hard wood floors. i always ask him what he thinks and he always tells me, "i don't care". i think it's because i'm not flowery feminine and he likes how it's turning out. he does get his 'man space' though where i told him he could do anything he wants. it's in the basement. an idea would be to sew solid, sheer, solid horizontal stripe curtains. the top solid stripe would hide the wall from the ceiling to the top of the window, the sheer would be over the window and the bottom solid stripe would be from the bottom of the window to whatever length you want. this gives the illusion of having a long window without losing any light. i would go with the darker fabric as well since i could not keep a light colored sofa clean. you could accessorize the sofa with light colored pillows that are easy to maintain. plus chances are your wall color is lighter than the sofa which would help it avoid blending into the walls.
