I used to be on the never ending iPod upgrade cycle back in the mid 2000's but that ended after the iPod Touch came out. Now I keep my tech for quite a few years before upgrading and dont feel like I am missing out on much of anything since many updates are minor.

For my Macbook Pro I have had it since 2006 and still use it to design. Unfortunately with its 2gb ram limit and inability to update to Adobe CS6 and OSX Mountain Lion I now have to think about a new laptop. I think I got my time/money out of the old MBP though!

We have a 40" in the living room and it is more than large enough, anything larger and it would be obtrusive. 80" is just plain ridiculous.

@Brian
I am sure all those links leading back to your website don't hurt either, especially on a heavily trafficked website like Apartment Therapy?

@solarpowerspork There is nothing wrong with people getting a little web knowledge under their belt, and you shouldn't worry if you are a professional designer your experience speaks louder than just the fact you know how to write code.

As for 99designs, please do not promote spec work, it is bad for everyone. Hire someone who will dedicate the time to understand your business and the job.

While most of the items on the list make sense, I dont see the reasoning behind dumping a radio just because it does not have an iPod attachment. I still find myself using my old radio's even though they lack iPod connectivity.

My desk goes through phases, but eventually return to its natural, cluttered self. There are too many things I like to have quickly accessible and having them stored away just does not work!

Rock Band. Played a handful of times for the first month then began the dust collecting. Still have it sitting in a bin waiting to be donated to some rockin kids.

I preferred the original painting, more character than the generic silhouette deer but glad the painting is still living on in some way!

Found a wonderful late 60's cabinet record player and love it. The dark wood, stylish look, and incredible sound really make it a focal point of my house. This type of tech is the kind you WANT people to see, rather than tucking it away or hiding it from sight (like much of todays tech).

I can certainly relate to this article. I have a Razr still, and it works fine. I listen to records on a 60's cabinet style player and it sounds great (actually gave away my cd player). I found a never used 1953 Hotpoint electric stove on Craigslist and besides being a great overall stove it can probably withstand a hand grenade going off in the oven. I also drive a 63' AMC Rambler that gets about 27 MPG give or take.

I completely agree with some of the other commenters here, many of todays goods are produced with an expiration in mind.
