I chose Sherwin Williams "Knitting Needles" for my living room. It's a nice, slightly warm, mid-tone gray.

I still really enjoy pinterest, but I avoid ever going to any of the categories or clicking the "everything" tab. The best way to guarentee you're only going to see awesome stuff is to find people who only pin awesome stuff. Then follow them. And if someone you follow starts pinning stupid crap, unfollow that board or that person. I'm still seeing amazing, beautiful new things every time I'm on Pinterest because I follow some amazing people. Everyone has different tastes, but if you want to see who I follow, check out my page and click on the "Following" link under my name. http://pinterest.com/StressedJess/

Maybe consider a wall-mounted wood rail.
That way you keep the beauty of the open stair, but still allow something to grab on to in case of a fall.

And seriously get in touch with someone with some legit building-industry credentials regarding those brackets/hinges. If those really are door hinges, they are definitely not intended to handle such a load in such a way, and you could end up with bigger problems than slippery treads and no handrails...

Love these. Unsettling, yet almost peaceful... a single moment of explosion frozen in time. Very graceful.

I'd just throw in in the washing machine on a delicate cycle, then hang it to dry. For only $2.50 it's worth the risk that you might ruin it.

I've purchased from DesignStory, One Kings Lane, and Rue La La before. None stood out to me as particularly great...

Not a home dec flash sale site, but their deals on wine are awesome! And lord knows, a glass of wine and home reno go together perfectly (at least for me!).

Believe it or not, people don't typically renovate their homes JUST so they can post wonderful pictures of the before and after on AT. Often, "before" pictures are shots of a room that just happened to be taken before the room was renovated, with no forethought as to how the pics will compare to the "after" shots. So quitcherbitchin.

This is a lovely, subtle makeover. Great inspiration for others looking to make small, simple changes that have impact..

One of my favorite things about chicago's neighborhoods is the wonderful diversity in architectural styles. And personally, I think the contrast between this house and its neighboring vintage homes is quite beautiful. Beauty comes in many forms...

Vintage/Midcentury Gate-leg tables are great. They are easy to expand and can have the look you're going for. My husband and I have a vintage gate-leg table that, with leaves and fold-outs, can go from seating only two to seating 8 to 10. It's perfect for small spaces but BIG entertaining.

(We're actually currelty trying to sell ours! So if you happen to be in the chicago area, let me know!)
