How soulful this post is! It's what my heart intends but I could never have expressed so beautifully. Thank you.

Emma - 'whisky' that side of the pond; 'whiskey' this side of the pond. I think this post is a wee bit sexist as I know just as many men as women who think scotch is too 'much' for them. (Less so w bourbon as it's sweeter) My entry into scotch was in my 20s sipping JW Black which then I quickly skipped over to Oban as a lovely easy to enjoy scotch. My husband and I spent a month in Scotland on our honeymoon and plan to go back to taste the regions we missed. Lowland and Speyside scotches are good entries/smooth for the newbie. Now I tend toward the Islay flavors of Lagavulin and Port Charlotte. Gorgeous.

we have the one pictured and it's got so many issues. We're on our second one (why we bought the duplicate to replace is our fault) Poor design (water/drips from the lid when it's placed up to clean or fill. Lame design) The hot plate 'cooks' your coffee while you sip to the second cup. A coffee maker w a thermal carafe is a smarter feature so you can turn the heat off and taste your coffee fresh. I wouldn't reco this maker.

I don't think grana padano and parm are interchangeable. Their flavors are very different. Both delish - but not swappable.

And while we're on the subject - let's hear it for Pecorino Toscano!

I always let the oven do the work of adding more flavor (with less fat than saute). I roast my mushrooms in a hotter oven 425 and I don't add salt until almost the end. Salt encourages them to release a lot of moisture and then they kinda stew rather than caramelize.

I get a toothache looking at it. But I applaud anyone willing to recycle something and put their own stylish spin on it. While I think it's urgly - I can still say well done.

This bread looks beautiful, Dana. Which farmer's market? I also live in SF but our local market (Noe) has two bakers and they're both pretty bad. :( I usually end up buying acme at the market down the street.

I'm just in research mode as we haven't adopted a baby yet and this is a really helpful post. We love the idea of cloth diapers and have this sense that it's better for the environment but I must admit I'm stunned by all the water that's required making it a less appealing environmental choice (over the bio degradable options)

One poster said instructions are to prewash 9 times (to make more absorbent I'm assuming?) And then hannah_a said: "i just stripped my old diapers, and was advised to wash once cold with whatever detergent you normally use, then hot wash with 1 tsp Dawn dish soap, then wash 2-3 additional times with NO detergent on hot wash... I have a friend who swears by this, and mine smelled much better after this. i think i threw in an extra rinse or two for good measure. "

Yoikes! We'll researching. Thank you all for your words of wisdom!

thyme. Delicate and lovely thyme. Improves eggs, chicken, popovers, ice creme, iced tea, marinated goat cheese, frozen in ice cubes for lemonade,
and looks so pretty tucked into a bouquet of flowers. Definitely thyme.

I'm kind of surprised at how much everyone is whining. I think it's because folks are so used to not paying for content online. And yet they're fine paying crazy amounts for traditional TV and cable - no matter how weak the content offered.

We dumped our cable and only pay for streaming on Netflix and dvd shipments - which is such a bargain. The streaming on Netflix will hopefully become more robust. It's really weak with 'choices' at the moment. But the dvd selection is fantastic and quick.

I support Netflix and hope they thrive.
