My toddler fell asleep on her potty last week, leaning against the sofa. Usually though she and her sister & brother will sleep on the floor on their quilt.

We have cats too and our babies (3 under 4) think the food/water dishes are the most fun ever.

In our hall we have a huge Ikea unit which we use for shoes/school bags/gym kit etc and the top of it is lipped (I can't find it on the Ikea website but it was a high-gloss version of the 'Engan' chest in the Vinstra styling). It's so high that the kids can't reach it but the cats can get there no problem and because there's a lip around the top we don't get any cat food knocked onto the floor. The lip also hides the foodbowls from view so there are no ugly catfood dishes on view!

I think it's awesome! Clearly in a minority here right enough, but I really like it.

Thanks so much everyone! Especially to MsChatelaine for the book recommendations, I picked up some nice bright paint samples last night and we're going to see how they work in their room :)

Scottish here, and if I didn't request that people remove their shoes at the door my carpets would be sodden. It rains so much here that it is simply impractical for shoes to be worn past the entry hall.

As much as I like their collection, I just couldn't bring myself to purchase my children's bedroom items from Gap. I couldn't live with the knowledge that they exploit other people's children (even though they consistenly deny that they do, and are then shown to be lying) in order to make consumer goods for children in countries that have the money to pay their overpriced rates.

I love the lime bag!

Since we're talking about packing the ideal bag, I'm imagining we'd be having the ideal day so in my bag I'd have suntan lotion and sunscreen for both my babies. We'd obviously have some nappies and wipes, some water and raisins and a supersoaker to have fun at the park with. Since we'd be soaking by the time we leave the park, I'd also have a handtowel and a change of clothes for the kids as well as a shirt for me. If the ideal bag was a Mary Poppins-esque bag I'd also have an umbrella, coats, wellies, gloves, scarves and hats since we live in Scotland and the weather can't be relied on!

I agree with Snot and Doppelganger really.

jmorey - Did you know that 'Saint' Angelina changed the name of her Vietnamese adoptee, and I'm sure he was about four too. That sprung to mind when I was contemplating the name change thing. I honestly believe it's nothing short of self-absorbtion to change your child's name at a stage in their life where they understand their identity as being linked to their name.

Mjoe - yeah as monika1 said our butter usually comes in 'pats' which weigh either 250g or 500g so I'm not sure about the weight thing.

I don't know if this will help, but I'm a huge fan of Stumble upon and del.icio.us. Stumble upon is a site which recommends websites that you might like based on the preferences you register, and del.icio.us is a bookmarking site which you can browse to find other sites. Anyway, I found This blog through stumble upon which is running a cookie competition and now has hundreds of mouth watering recipes available. There's so many to choose from that I'm overwhelmed!

I love the idea in theory, but I'd be deeply neurotic about the flavourings in the markers

In the UK we don't really use cups for measurement - how do you get a cup of butter anyway? :S

Crayons! Seriously, with two wriggly toddlers nappy change time is like a wrestling match. Give them crayons and paper, and life suddenly becomes aeons easier. Also handy for when on public transport as we discovered last weekend in London!
