"I don't. A generous grandparent is something a child (and parent) should be grateful for." Well said nellymom. I think teaching a child (or adult) how to graciously accept a gift is more important than the gift itself.

No offense JudiAU, but you sound a little bit sanctimonious. Are you children not allowed to play with plastic toys or licensed character toys on play dates, either? We can't always live in a bubble.

I had a dollhouse growing up that was about 1:12 scale and it was populated by vintage Topper Dawn dolls. They were sort of like mini Barbies and came with tons of tiny clothes. They are probably best for older kids though, about 8 and up.

One of my grandmother's staple meals was chipped beef on toast and green peas. I distinctly remember drinking from the tiny glass Hormel jars that she recycled into kiddie drinking glasses!

I think many of the cribs that convert to beds look like ugly beds when they convert to full size mode! Plus, I didn't think my small child needed to sleep on a full size bed. We got a nice Jenny Lind crib and have a twin sized Jenny Lind bed set up in her room for changing diapers, dressing, etc. and she will just sleep in that when she's ready to be done with the crib.

If you want a cute decorated "thing on a stick" with even less effort, a chocolate dipped marshmallow on a stick is also a great alternative. The marshmallow is also a great shape to decorate, add faces, etc.

Does anyone know where can purchase replacement wheels for trikes and ride on toys? I have that ubiquitous Step Two Push Around Buggy and my baby loves it but the blue plastic wheels are SO loud. I'd love to find some rubberized wheels but have no idea where to order small wheels like that.

I don't think mixing white chocolate and yogurt would work either - I don't think the white chocolate would set properly if anything wet was mixed in.

I am loving all of these summery outdoor and backyard posts but they're also making me a little sad because we live in the south and temps are already reaching 100 degrees midday and our backyard is quite wooded and gets very buggy and mosquito-y in the summertime!

I'd love to enjoy my backyard with my toddler but how am stumped as to how to do it without harmful chemicals, bug sprays, foggers, etc. Any ideas?

I have the same room set up, right down to the spindle bed and I hung up oversized counting /animal cards from eboo with some raffia twine and clothes pins from the dollar store. Super cute, large scale and lightweight! And you can always change it out with their own art work, photographs or other pictures if you want.

What about the Canon XS - the truly entry level DSLR? It runs a few hundred less than the t2i model and can use the same range of Canon lenses. I'd hardly call an $800 camera body "entry level" for most hobby/parent photographers.

I enjoy seeing these play kitchen transformations, but I cannot help but think about how darn HEAVY those old fashioned entertainment centers are. Most of them are made of solid oak. Unless it was free and already in my house, I am not sure the cost savings are worth having to transport one of those heavy things home, move it all over my garage during the renovation process, place it inside and then haul it back out of my house when my child outgrows it.

I use IKEA Skubb boxes (I think they used to be called Komplement?). They are fabric boxes with zippers in the bottom and they fold flat when you don't need them. I sort little things like socks, tights, etc. into them and then fold other clothes in half only once so they stacks don't tip over. I also keep an empty diaper box in the closet to toss all too small clothes in. If you sell at consignment, you already have your "to sell" box ready to go next season!

At what age do babies usually become attached to lovies? I've provided my 10 month old baby with a variety of lovies, soft blankets, etc. but she has yet to show any interest in them at all or "choose" one in particular, even the nap blanket that goes with her every day to daycare.

I put Christmas cards in a shoe box and put them away each year with the decorations. It's fun to look back on them each year and then add more when Christmas is over. I also write the year on the back of each card.

I've seen some classic and popular children's titles at TJ Maxx and Marshalls - usually around $5-6. They usually have a decent selection of board books as well, you just have to be willing to do some digging.

American Girl dolls and the various knock off versions are all 18 inches tall .... perhaps their clothes might work for BlaBla dolls? I've never seen a BlaBla doll in person so I don't know the exact proportions, but maybe you can get a cheap outfit at Target to test it out first? You can also find a lot of handmade clothes on etsy that fit the 18 inch American Girl doll proportions.

I sort of get a David Bowie/ Labyrinth vibe from the video and it reminds me of my own childhood when my sort of hippieish mother let me watch / listen to / experience things that were OK for children but not necessarily FOR children ... know what I mean? I think it can be great for kids to be exposed to things that are beautiful, creative, and just a little bit freaky or weird. I mean, when you think back on it, Wizard of Oz is pretty trippy!
