In NYC milk cartons (and OJ cartons and similar) go in with #1 and #2 plastics. The caps aren't recyclable here (they are usually #5 PP, and should say on the cap, so double check before you throw them in the recycling!).

We have the Baby Stella doll: http://www.geniusbabies.com/baby-stella-doll-manhattan-baby-toys.html
(but also available on Amazon and a million other places, just google).

All fabric (sort of velour-y), and just a nice classic baby doll with a sweet expression (not creepy or stare-y). Similar to the Pottery Barn dolls listed above but a little less expensive. She has a belly button, which my daughter loved (we got her around the time she was obsessed with her own belly button.

We also have the Peltor Kids muffs (the same pink ones Apple has, though that was not intentional!). I got them on Amazon. My then-18-month-old wore them to a show that my husband and I played. She resisted the muffs at first but as soon as she realized how loud it was in the club (just from ambient noise of people talking, before the music even started) she happily kept them on the whole night. My husband tried them on and they really do block lots of noise--I think they're actually intended for hunting/gunshot use???

Lovely. I'm giggling a bit because it's clear that this "closet" is still way bigger than the second bedroom (our nursery) in our NYC apartment.

Yep, we use the plastic links. Lots of companies make them, like this: http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2734997

You can get them at Target or anyplace they have baby toys. Or you can be cheap like me and just swipe the links off the Gymini.

I think the issue with the puzzle-type mats is that the interlocking "teeth" can be chewed off by a small child, and the resulting piece is small enough that it's a choking hazard. That and the off-gassing is why I ended up getting a Skip Hop.

Check out wholesomebabyfood.com--it has a lot of the information that's in Super Baby Food (what to introduce when, food prep guidelines, etc) but in less pushy form. I printed out their food introduction chart and posted it on the fridge and it helped give me ideas of what to make.

Banana, avocado, sweet potato, squash are all good to start with. Zucchini and yellow squash are also often recommended as early foods but my daughter totally rejected them. Don't worry too much about getting a quantity of food into baby--before age 1 solids are just for fun. My daughter wasn't eating solids more than twice a day until she was 10 months or so. Also don't worry if baby hates something at first--their tastes will change as they are offered things repeatedly, and in different forms. My daughter hated pureed peas but now (14 months old) loves to eat peas as a finger food.

I haven't seen any of the Dwell products, so I can't speak directly to their quality. But chances are the off-gassing you're talking about is coming not from the finish, but from the wood itself. If the furniture has any MDF or particleboard parts (as nearly all furniture does nowadays, especially at this price point), the formaldehyde used in the glues that hold together the fibers/layers will offgas for a while.

Unless the furniture is described as being "100% solid wood", it will have MDF or particleboard in it. I ordered a dresser/changing table from Target (another brand) that was described as having "solid wood construction," which turned out to mean that some of the parts were solid pine and others were MDF. We ended up using a product called Safecoat Safe Seal to seal all the unfinished edges (or rather, since I was pregnant, I made my husband do this!) but there was still a lingering smell. Luckily we had a month or two to let the piece air out completely.

If I were furnishing my nursery over again (and was not on bedrest again!), I would not get a new inexpensive dresser--I'd scour Craigslist for something used (you sometimes see great all solid wood pieces, and if not, at least a used piece will have done the worst offgassing already) or get something from IKEA's LESVIK children's line, which is all solid wood except for fiberboard backs and drawer bottoms.

Just two days ago I saw a Love stroller tote in action on the subway and absolutely coveted it. But I was too shy to ask where the dad using it got it, and I've been wondering ever since who made it and where I could get one. And lo and behold, I log on for my daily fix of AT Nursery and find this contest!

Looking at the designs, I actually think I love the Thing One even more than Love. For the past 8 months we've been using the hospital-issued diaper bag, which is falling apart, and I've been in search of a sturdy, well-organized, funky but not too girly, stroller-friendly (we live in NYC and stroll EVERYWHERE) bag that is made of an easily cleanable fabric that will stand up to strolling in all weather (but that is NOT the dreaded PVC!). A very tall order, but the Dante Beatrix stroller tote looks perfect. I love the bold design and the stroller clips. I'd immediately put it to use strolling to the park (with a supply of clothes, bottles, snacks, etc.), banging around on the subway, schlepping to the playground, and more. Love it!
