Is that shower curtain from West Elm? I'm looking for something in a bold stripe.

SherryBinNH, I feel you completely. One year I wanted a Cabbage Patch Kid and got one of those homemade ones (back in the 80s you could apparently buy a pattern to sew one yourself). I was heartbroken and embarrased to show my friends, so it's been hidden in my parents' basement ever since. I would honestly love for my mom to buy me a "real" CPK, even today.

I would give it a good paint job, and fasten a pretty decorative tray to the bottom, giving it more of a sill than it currently has. Then it could be used as a landing strip. Or insert a shelf with a decorative bracket supporting it and again use it as a functional shelf.

I find that shower doors are pretty much the most miserable things to clean in the world. Water spots and hard water build up on the glass, icky grout, corners that collect water; they are truely one of the most hated things in my world. I live in my second house with them, and haven't stopped hating them for a moment. I would go with any bathtub that utilizes shower curtains.

In our last home we had similar cabinets, but opted not to paint them since our counters and appliances were both "almond" and we did not have the budget to replace everything. We painted the room a red color called Ruby Slippers (just a bit darker than a true red) and accented with white curtains and black & white accessories. It was bold, and could have easily gone too country, too 50s diner or too "Americana", so we kept the art and accessories modern and sleek, avoiding crafty and chrome. It was much better. The warmth of the red cooled our honey-oak cabinets.

I honestly don't understand how proper street clearing by plows has anything to do with etiquette. A neighbor snowblowing his snow onto your driveway or sidewalk, neighbors dumping their snow directly in the street, cars left on your street to get in the way of plows and hamper street clearing - absolutely matters of poor etiquette. But it is a widely accepted fact that plows will leave snow on your curb, sidewalk or drive because it simply has to go somewhere. It's not fun to clean up, but is really no one's fault.
