Yes, overall, I like the couch and think it is now quite comfortable. I would have to say that after about two years, the bed part became uncomfortable as the foam pushed through the mechanism and the webbing on the bottom. But, the couch comes with a 5 year warranty and if you get it through an authorized reseller like Room & Board or Scott Jordan (if you're in NYC), they will replace it for free. I got mine through Scott Jordan and after a few innocent snafoos, they replaced it no questions asked. And it now is very very comfortable to sleep on again, almost like a real bed (and if you like your bed more firm, this is ideal).

Oh, and glad you're just big enough that you got bumped up to Tiny category and didn't have to compete against me in Teeny-Tiny! :-)

Thanks so much for the thoughtful critique! My girlfriend made the same exact criticism too! The issue is that to properly sleep on the sofa, I need to flip the back pillows up, which already nearly touch that shelf. Perhaps you're right about the black and white stretched canvas piece to the left of the sofa. I'll have to experiment with placement.

I absolutely love this apartment. Major apartment envy. Having said that, however, what are we evaluating here? Is it whether the people were able to afford an apartment that had nice fixtures put in by the builder? Or is it that they were able to use a challenging space to make it much more livable. Again, I think this apartment is gorgeous and the owners certainly did a great job to make it warmer and more inviting than all that glass would otherwise indicate. But, let's step back and evaluate it in the context of the amazing floorplan (which was, I assume, the builder's decision), the top of the line and beautiful appliances, and the stunning windows that allow for amazing views and terrific sunlight.

I own an American Upholstery/Leather (Room and Board sells their sofas under the name "Comfort Sleeper", and in NYC, go to Scott Jordan) Comfort Sleeper and use it as my regular bed for every night. For the first year or so, it was fantastic. Amazingly comfortable and no bars that I could feel. Afterwards, however, the high density foam got pushed through the slats underneath that make up the bed fold-up mechanism and the bed became unbearable to sleep on. Having said that, there is a 5 year warranty and Scott Jordan (the licensed reseller) has agreed to replace the bed portion of it for me free of charge, under the warranty. I would say buy, but be careful. Buy only from a licensed reseller (Scott Jordan is great) and keep all receipts.

Also, one important point. I live in a small NYC studio with small door frames. The sofa arrives from the store disassembled into pieces and it is super-easy to put it together, which the nice people from Scott Jordan did for me. No need to saw the sofa in half, break off the arms, etc. which is the common trick used to get the sofas from Room and Board, etc. into NYC apartments. These techniques often invalidate the warranties, whereas in this case, it does not as I believe the sofa already arrives from the manufacturer, disassembled. Just thought useful for people to know.

Ok, this is what I don't get about the obnoxiously expensive "space-saving" furniture. Why not just spend that money on rent for a bigger apartment?

As for "knocking off," while I do agree with fueledbycoffee to some extent, on another level, I have to say that these ligne rosset, et al. themselves knock off other designers. Look at a lot of mid-century danish pieces that we now consider great works of design. Even they were highly derivative from other designers. Jalk, Juhl, Vodder, and Risom all borrowed (to put it loosely) from each other to a great extent. While I do believe in originality and don't think that EVERYTHING is derivative, a lot of things are and so when I ikea or cb2 "copy" something, they might not even be copying an "original."
