My Dad's family is from Charleston- historically a very rice centric people. We always used a stove-top Charleston Rice Steamer to cook the rice....you literally can not screw up rice in this thing even if you tried! It used to be you could only find them in country hardware stores in SC (which is wear my inherited rice steamer came from), but you can find them online now. My old roommate actually got rid of her electric rice cooker and bought a rice steamer online after using mine a couple of times :-) How to Cook Rice on the Stove |

This Christmas my father and I did traditional roast goose with stuffing, goose liver pate, and rosemary popovers- it was DELICIOUS! I always have a calendar hanging in my kitchen and I always buy it in January when they're 50-75% off. It may just be luck, but I'm always able to find at least one nice art calendar (this year it's Mucha!) amid all the leftover kittens and teen heartthrobs. Do You Hang a Calendar in Your Home? |

The year I lived in an unrenovated historic house in downtown Charleston (which equaled $400 electric bills just to keep it at 50 degrees) my parents got me a down comforter. It was the best possible gift I could get that year! What's The Best Practical Gift You Ever Received? Reader Survey |

I wasn't "sick", but for some reason the year I got full mouth braces nicely coincided with Thanksgiving (I think they were put on just a few days prior). It was AWFUL! I got a few bites of turkey, but mainly had mashed potatoes (special made for me) and individual grains of rice :-( When Holidays Go Wrong: Sick on Thanksgiving |

In college I worked as a First Responder, we were repeatedly called out when drunk and/or high people made popcorn and put it in the microwave for 30 minutes instead of 3 minutes. Never any fire though, just a lot of smoke. I Almost Burned Down The Kitchen When... |

I agree with philosoknitter....give the woman a break! Just because you don't like doesn't automatically mean it's crap. Also- it's evident no one actually read the original post. The cabinet's were free cast offs, the extra wood and paint was paid for by selling the old stools and she's planning on adding fabric backings for the doors. Last year I was paying $550/mo (a special rate being run by the apartment complex) for a 750 SF 1 bedroom apartment w/ screened in porch in West Ashley- across the river from Charleston, SC (outside 526 for those in the know). It was 15 min from downtown and 20-30 min from the beach! Survey: How Much Is Your Monthly Rent or Mortgage? |
