Happy Pre-Hurricane everyone! I have a gas stove. Am I truly able to still use it? It has pilot lights on the bottom. How exactly do I go about using it?

I had planned and making dinner for my boyfriend for his birthday on Sunday and would love to still be able to, even if I had to do it in the dark.

Any and all suggestions are welcome and appreciated!

most of it is portion control!! just because you cooked a pound of pasta doesn't mean you have to EAT a pound of pasta...

I also work out for 2 hours 4 days a week.. that helps.. My boyfriend and I are both former "Fat kids" and our fear of going back to that scares us into only cooking healthy, having treats on scarce occasions, and working out a lot (we also really enjoy just being gym rats)

i have actually read on a different food blog site that a great way to poach eggs to bring a pot of water to a rolling boiling, then spray microwave safe plastic wrap with cooking spray, put the egg in the plastic wrap and tie a knot to close (which i never do, i have plastic bag snap thingies i use) and drop it in the water for a 3 or so minutes or until desired doneness...

no fuss no muss and clean up in a breeze!

my boyfriend and i have square dishes in 2 colors. we have the whole set, square mugs, bowls, even our glasses are squarish. I love them! I suppose it is a matter of opinion. We got ours via amazon (it's their retro square set) in blue and green. I am sure eventually we will get "homely" dishes, but as for now (we've had them over 3 years now) we are not looking to get rid of them!

this past thanksgiving i had my first public blooper .. my sister insists on the parker house rolls that are in the metal container already. Well, stopping somewhere ON thanksgiving day all I could find were no-name brand ones in a plastic container. Well, being used to the other ones, when the oven was preheated, i stuck those suckers in.. when my mother went to take them out, she started laughing hysterically. The plastic had melted! Luckily she keeps a not-stick mat on her oven racks and the rolls came right off of the melted plastic ... My boyfriend laughed that I can cook so well most things, but pre-made rolls, I failed!
