Here's a great charity gathered by two staten island crossfit members that were supposed to be running the marathon for their 3rd and 4th times. They live on the island and were very successful in gathering helpers on Sunday to clean up where needed.

They have raised this money in barely over 48 hours.

How To Help: Hurricane Sandy Aftermath
11/5/12 6:50 PM

I went to home depot and got a few supplies. I'm gonna paint and add knobs to a piece of furniture I have for my baby on the way. Planning nursery decor will keep me busy as long as I can see what I'm doing! Now my husband has nothing to do but give me his undivided attention for all of this baby fun. I probably be more worried. I'm on Staten Island, but being from California, I am only used to earthquakes. :)

10 Things to Do at Home During the Storm

God thank you! I was thinking this the other day.... Who the hell came up with the freaking dent in the top of the pillow and decided that looks good?
It makes my blood boil at this point... especially when it's just a designer taking pics of their own home and they are clearly not professionally done. Some stupid design school teacher somewhere is telling all their students that it makes everything look....? What? what could they possibly think it is doing? Enough already. Please just do a post telling all designers that they need to stop doing this, that it makes their work look dated and corny!

I don't really think that floor tile is the best choice with the rest of the renovations... and get some color in there somewhere!

I'm so so sorry. Gross. First and most major change is cover the tile. Go to home deeps and get yourself a roll of aluminum flashing. Hot glue that shizzle over that dreadful tile. It will look like stainless steel and will come off super easily.
Good luck. I would love to see this project tackled!

I heartily agree with the above comment! I have been searching forever for a leather chair that has this kind of broken-in leather. It's beautiful! Buy it and fix the underneath issues, but why would you ever re-upholster?
Leave the leather as-is!

I think it still looks claustrophobic.... like the ceiling is closing in. Wouldn't it have been better to keep it on the walls and remove it from the ceiling?

Mirrors! Look on craigslist for a large mirror, because people are always pulling them out of their bathrooms. Put it on one of the walls and get some vines to grow up around it and it will look like an entrance to another garden entirely! Or like DonaldN said, do the whole back wall! I would still do a tree though or if you have decent weather where you are, a fiddle-leaf ficus can be amazing with large leaves and it grows long branches like a tree but without the giant trunk- and you can plant it in a container.

I seriously just commented on a post yesterday about my idea for covering my white apartment walls! Well I just started working on the solution, so you will have to check back for updates: http://devonsharon.blogspot.com

Pssst: It's a mural that you can take with you when you move, or move the whole thing to a different room entirely!

Funny to see this when I am literally going upstairs to start my apartment wall painting. I was going to paint the actual wall, then decided that it is too much of a pain to paint over later and try to match that perfect off-white tone they used everywhere. So, I decided to get a huge piece of canvas and make a portable mural/tapestry of what I actually wanted to put on the wall. I hope it comes out the way I want. At least I can take it with me when I move out! See the progress here. Pics will be up after March 5th.

I would've gone with a more bold stripe....
What did you do with that original seat cover...? Surely someone must have spent hours doing the needlework years ago. My aunt just had chair cushions that my great-grandmother hand-stitched made into throw pillows for each family member. Truly a family heirloom.

Turn it on it's end and add shelving inside...
Use it as a bookshelf/cabinet with a door.
Paint it a bright glossy color maybe, or seal it with it's interesting finish. You could even add a mirror to the outside of the door with a little bit of trim. Or if you can get the door off, turn it on it's side and use it as an entertainment center.

How To Repurpose Vintage Freezer?
Good Question

1/31/11 5:20 PM

I wouldn't even pay rent for the next three months... just let him evict you. You'll be out of there before it matters anyway. You could even tell the landlord, that he can go ahead and evict you, if he doesn't do anything about it... he's not getting rent.
Definitely read up on renter's rights. There are probably way more things he's not doing right. For example, it is against the law for your landlord to enter your premises without 24 hours written notice.
