My husband is camping in the woods of Michigan for the weekend and is probably making his annual trip to our geocache as I type. We have another on an island in Lake Superior. Every other year we kayak to the geochae to see what visitors from around the world have left us in the tin box. So fun!

Looks like the Turkel House around the corner from me in Detroit. It was vacant for years.
We are all so thankful to the owners for taking on the rehab and restoring dignity to the home and neighborhood.

In Detroit, proper & suburban,(we must always differentiate) the dinner party is very much alive, particularly with the Double Income No Kid(DINKS) and gay crowds. I don't have enough soirees, mostly b/c my husband & I can't agree on the guest list. We end up having more bbq's instead, but I can tell you that I feel very behind the times not having guests at my dinner table. It is always a treat to be invited to them.

Made it last night! Yum! Will be good over rice. I have finally found the healthy cousin to my favorite Thai dish which is vegetable curry. Thanks Kitchn!

My mother is a talented interior designer but her choice of white on white on white always made me anxious and I was never comfortable growing up in a showroom environment. So I went in the opposite direction. I want my home to feel lived in and went with color and lots of it. pops of primary color everywhere. Mixed Fiestaware in the kitchen. Colorful prints & textiles everywhere else

Store Display! That's my job!
I have asked Target for Halloween decorations in the past but was told they're donated schools.

I do regret not asking my video store for life size Edward Scissorhands cut outs when it was released back in the day. I did score a Sid and Nancy poster that I still have.

Our power hardly ever goes out in Detroit but the last time it did a few years back we did exactly like the picture. We pulled out a game of Scrabble and a bottle of wine. Lucky we had fire going in the fireplace. We were all set.

My husband's family has been passing something along called "the mother" of vinegar for generations that originated in Italy.
