Back in the eighties cold water extract coffee was available all over the place in Oregon. It was so much smoother (and as stated already, so much less acidic) than espresso, brewed or pour over, I could never understand why it's popularity died out. It's the only kind I make, but I prepare a stronger concentrate so that I use a 3 to 1 ratio of boiling water to concentrate.

Ditto on the rat thing. I lived in a gorgeous old apartment building years ago with one side covered in ivy. My icky neighbor would leave his trash bags on his (3rd floor) deck. One morning as I ate my breakfast gazing out my window - there was the RAT (not my neighbor) rifling through the garbage. My landlady evicted him and tore down the ivy.
