White on White - I look on Etsy for throw pillows all the time- but those two shops you listed are insanely gorgeous. Thank you for posting.

Wanderlester - I bought ours on ebay. I trolled for months as my husband and I saw a Longo exhibit on one of our first dates. I bought the print, which was signed by Longo for about $500. There are only a very small, limited amount of prints made from the Men in the City series (I believe only about 250 were printed in the 80s for Amnesty International). Have a search on ebay created and then you can get alerts when they come available. Good luck - we LOVE our print. It's huge and so beautiful.

Thanks all - b77 we actually looked at that very rug at Ikea this weekend. Ultimately we decided to buy a cowhide rug in a rich congnac brown color. It looks fantastic in the space. I absolutely love the suggestion about the use of texture. I am having a tough time with color (I'm so much more of a neutral lover), but texture is a great suggestion. Just found a throw pillow from anthro similar to the ones posted from West Elm. And YES - plants! So easy and will definitely help.

I actually just bought a piece for my godson from Little Collector! We wanted to get him started on an art collection. I love the variety and especially love that everything is limited edition pieces.

My dear mother just sent me some faux leaves for my thanksgiving table so this is timely. i was hoping for something a little more original than just laying them out on the table (that's what i always do, boring). and you guys are relentless....but i agree i wish they had ironed those tablecloths. (My mother would likely not speak to me the whole of thanksgiving if my linens weren't pressed).

Anna - I completely agree with you. If you are in love with something saving a little is not going to please you - it will always be the second runner up chair. Save up for it and go for it!

stovetop espresso maker is truly the only way to go. i'm a recent convert from a french press and the coffee (well, latte technically) is truly sooo much smoother. french press (while I loved it), makes the coffee more bitter.

Here's my really sad story - truly (not tragic, but still tears at the heart strings possibly?).

My television stopped working August 8, if you all recall the storm that swept through New York causing a subway meltdown, and a tornado in Brooklyn, where I live. Something happened that day (a power surge?), but what exactly I can't be sure. All I know is that my television will now only turn on, no channel changing, and no volume changing, it's just frozen right there on the Food Network. Now, of all the networks for my television to be frozen on, the Food Network is probably my top choice. But, it's getting a little old, and I'm gaining weight from watching that solely and making whatever Paula Deen tells me to make.

Now, I have been saving for months to buy a 37" plasma. And I'm actually making the purchase this weekend. But, the reason I've been saving is not for myself. I've been saving to buy a plasma for my brother and his soon to be wonderful wife, as a wedding gift. So - truly I will be purchasing a new television...which I desperately need (fall season is upon us!!), but will be handing it off just as quickly as I make the purchase.

Tugs at the heartstrings a bit, no?

And - Maxwell, I have the most amazing, perfect spot for this television which shows of major ingenuity - we're talking Ikea hack here.

ughhh yuck yuck - please say no to Brita. it's a harbour for bacteria!

here's a tip that's been used for generations, if you really think there is an off kilter taste to tap (there isn't here in NY, we have some great tap water).

fill a glass pitcher with water and let it stand on the counter overnight (uncovered). oxygen in the air acts as a natural filter. if you stick it in the fridge, it tastes like pure filtered water.

jako- use a glass pitcher for water always, not plastic.

mr green you entertain me.

one of the top things that helped me is setting up conversation areas - so the way everything is placed right now, the television is the center of the room. you don't want that - you want furniture to come together for people to congregate (i.e. someone above said to move the chairs together). I'd move them so they are next to the sofa.

I have a good friend that is an interior designer - her big tips are that everything in a room should have a purpose. If a piece of furniture doesn't have use or purpose get rid of it. And every piece of furniture needs a companion - i.e. that lone table on the wall next to the bar stools seems mis-placed. I'd put that in between the two chairs. Then it has purpose (drinks/lamp) and has a companion. Make sense?

Also - I'm a neutral fanatic - but this is screaming for some variation! that doesn't have to mean color in the traditional sense, but in my apartment i mix a lot of different shades of neutrals for variation. this is easy through paint, plants, (plants are the best best way to add home-y-ness to an apartment), and area rugs?

And please move all your wall hangings down a foot!

ps. kudos to you and your husband for working for all of us!

I painted my bathroom chocolate brown last year, and honestly I've never gotten so many comments on any design scheme of my apartment. And they were not good. See above....but I guess chocolate brown in a bathroom is just not a good combo for people. Once the connection was pointed out I started to hate it too and painted it back to white.

I'm one of those anti-color neutral lovers. But these pics make me want to redo my entire place. Or move into the GPH. Tomorrow.
