The only problem with open storage- either hanging or shelves- is the weird greasy dust that kitchens produce. When I had a utensil rack, I found I had to throw them in the dishwasher regularly whether they had been used or not. I finally took it down. Just occurred to me that cedar chips, sold as small animal bedding would make lovely aromatic filling. The filling tends to be the expensive part of these projects: it pays to think outside the box. Weekend Project: Make Your Own Floor Pouf from $3 IKEA Mats Retropolitan |

well, I've been married almost 20 years to someone who has either no sense of style (when I'm feeling snarky) to a diametrically oppressed sense of style ( when I'm feeling generous). He rates chairs by something he refers to as "butt happiness". OTOH, he is honest, upright, loving and true, so a bit of plaid is well worth it. of street parking and a big front porch. but, it is a quiet street with easy parking, and there is a front porch, it is just small. What I was surprised about was that the "starter house" seems to be the "lifetime house". I can't imagine leaving this neighborhood. Even though we landed here randomly, it has been a remarkable force for good in our lives. What 'Must-Haves' Did You Let Go Of When Buying Your First Home? |

art and craft supplies can be a really good deal. when someone tries it out, buys a bunch of stuff, and then changes their mind. I got an awesome box of fancy scrapbooking paper for free that way. We made them out of yellow, for forsythia, back in elementary school...very fun. As for dusting, who keeps a floral arrangement long enough for it to gather dust? Even stuff that doesn't wilt on it's own, such as silks, dried flowers, etc needs to be changed out every couple of weeks. Other wise, you end up looking like you stole the display from a HoJos. I had one. It nearly killed us all on Christmas Eve with CO poisoning. It had been installed by a pro. I'll never get another one, unless it has the guts of a modern stove and the shell of a vintage. They are pretty, but.... Green Style: Vintage Stove in a Los Angeles Rental |

Really lovely. You are giving the old house it's soul back. Nice to see people who love old houses and are willing to put the work into them. Also appreciate that there were more shots of the room layouts than of the vignettes. I like seeing how the spaces flowed. As for it looking "staged" well, for one you have only lived there a few months, things soften with time and for second, if I were going to put pics of my house on the internet, you'd bet I'd go over everything with a fine toothed comb!
