Beautiful job! Those kitchen mini chandeliers are fab! Who makes them? Do they give you enough light?

Thanks.

We live in an apt. in NYC and use a service called VOKASHI (www.vokashi.com) run by Vandra Thorburn. Bucket and "bran" delivered to us each month and picked up by them the next. We've reduced our trash substantially and no more wet garbage to leak.

Really nice job. Such an improvement! LOVE your choice of backsplash tile. Who cares what other people "would have" done. If you having nothing nice to say, people, MOVE ON.

Great idea. Very colorful! I keep mine on one of those multi-bar pants hangers which hangs on a hook attached to the inside of the entryway closet.

We splurged on an IceStone top to refurbish a 30 yr. old Saarinen table. We also had the base powder coated at an auto body shop. We saved on chairs from Home Decorator's.

Where Do You Spend vs. Save at Home?

sagekitten85: Yes, the soffit is full. It contains a waste pipe that comes out from the wall and snakes horizontally as well as an oversized steel vent box that reaches from the wall to the inside edge of the soffit. Neither can be modified (according to the rules of the building).

mhg: The caravaggio is gorgeous. Wish a pendant would work, but we've got a 4.5" height (and 11" width) restriction to clear the swing of the cabinet doors. That's part of the difficulty in finding a (nice looking) fixture that will give appropriate ambient light.

Thank you everyone for your comments. Yes, under cabinet halogen or xenon lighting (hard wired, so as not to have hanging cords) is already in the plan. I was asking about the ceiling fixture in this narrow room - track vs single fixture. If you've had to make a similar decision, please chime in.

New trend? Not for me. Liberated this chair from parents basement and recovered it in this watercolor fabric about 20 years ago. Love it still! http://twitpic.com/3nuufu

Love the re-do. Going to be using the same white/gray with touches of blue color scheme in our kitchen reno. See you have a composting bin by your stove. Have been wanting one for all the scraps but keep wondering about odors. What's your experience?

My parents also had one of these tables. My brother took it off to college in the 70s and that was the last we saw of it. Sure wish I had it in my NYC apt. now!

I've had white floors in my NYC apt., though not in the kitchen, for 23 years. The difference is they were pickled, then poly'd - not painted. It was all the rage in the 80's. It is time to re-do them and I'm going to have it done the same way. It brightens the whole place up and no harder to clean than the oak floor in the bedroom.

Well done, you! Absolutely love the color/pattern/texture combinations you have assembled. So bright and cheery without looking overdone. Fabrics are fantastic, especially the dining chairs.
