As a frequent visitor to Palm Springs, I'd say that the town itself -- and the image -- is hardly "hetero-normative". In fact, if I didn't know otherwise I'd think it might have been selected by a pair of gay dads, some of whom I've seen at local coffee shops! Now, I wouldn't want this in my house -- but as Tequila Red said, we're not all into embroidery hoops either. I also like Teammates by Peter Golenbock, about Jackie Robinson and Pee Wee Reese (good to know some about Robinson first), and Just Like Josh Gibson by Angela Johnson, which reinforces that even girls can be good at baseball! Baseball Books for Little Sluggers |

Can someone tell me how to hang the old school maps (that come on a roller)? Been trying for so long to figure this out! Thanks! Style Sourcelist: School House Inspired Looks for the Home |

Love how much character this room has! Thanks for sharing! Would you please tell me how you hung the vintage map -- I've been trying to do the same with no luck! Simon, Levi & Josie's Shared Bedroom Room Tour |

The people we invited to our son's 3rd birthday knew him in many ways and had many different levels of income. We said on the invite "No gifts, please. We'll be collecting canned food for [the local food pantry] if you wish to donate." Most everyone brought a can or two; a few also brought either a small gift, a homemade card, or cards with money. We used the money to buy peanut butter [my son's favorite food] to donate and let the giver know on the thank you card! Small Home Dilemmas: Dealing with Gifts and Considering No Gift Parties |

Did this in my son's room and have received many compliments! I too went to Kinkos as I could not bear to cut a book! I chose 4 pages from Ashley Bryan's ABC of African American Poetry that were meaningful (not just ABCD) and used IKEA frames. I love that these are in an "adult room"!

Just bought a ridiculous amount of Christmas candy (winter packaging, not Christmas) to give as Valentine gifts to my son's teachers. Will be picking the green Kisses out and leaving the red and white! 5 Things To Buy Right Now To DIY With Later |

Neat idea! You might want to browse some children's picture books for inspiration or illustrations to frame. I really like Sacred River (Lewin) and Finders Keepers (Arnett). There are also some nice India ABC books. World Market and 1000 Villages have mobile-like strands of beads and stuffed elephants from India that are great. Also thinking lanterns! Good luck! So glad I'm not the only one who doesn't care for these -- but good news! Just found a board book, Hello Virginia!, which is FABULOUS! Beautiful illustrations by David Walker which show landmarks and state symbols and introduce opposites, colors, and shapes. (e.g. "Hello Soft Water. [Chesapeake Bay] Hello Hard Crab. [Blue Crab]). I see on amazon that he also illustrated Hello Florida, Hello Texas, and Hello New York City. Hope he'll do more!
