Actually, they make 5-mL beakers, too. And PLEASE use the correct terminology--if it is cylindrical with straight sides it is a beaker; if it is conical with sloped sides it is a flask (Erlenmeyer flask, to be completely proper). 3 Reasons Why You Should Start Using Lab Beakers In the Kitchen |

I don't usually brown meat before putting it in the crockpot. The "Slow-Cooker Barbacoa Beef" recipe from this site (go to RECIPES then search SLOW COOKER) is great (doesn't even suggest browning meat before putting in crockpot!). What Can I Cook Without a Stove or Oven? Good Questions |

Minced or slivered preserved lemon is fantastic sprinkled on pizza before baking. I do maybe 2-4 teaspoons on a 14" pizza--just enough so you get a piece or two in every bite. YUM! 5 Ways to Use a Jar of Preserved Lemons Ingredient Spotlight |

Chocolate will naturally bloom (fats coming to the surface) over time. It looks ugly, but is harmless. As said above, probably best used in recipe(s) where it is melted. DON'T THROW IT OUT!! Help! Is My Old Chocolate Still Good? Good Questions |

Super-easy, "cheating" recipe: use Jimmy Dean sage sausage (in the frozen meat or breakfast section of your supermarket). Flatten ~4 oz into a large, thin patty and form around peeled h.b. egg. Repeat. Bake at ~350 degrees for ~1/2 hour, or until sausage is done. Eat warm or cold, with plenty of Coleman's mustard. How Can I Make Deep-Fried Hard Boiled Eggs at Home? Good Questions |

For over a decade I've added ~1/4 to 1/2 tsp. green curry paste (the ubiquitous ~3 oz jars, can't remember the brand off hand) when I heat a can of Campbell's chicken noodle soup for a quick meal. Makes boring bland soup sooo much better! 5 Unexpected Ways to Use Curry Paste |

Yes! I've owned one of these spatulas (also gave one to my mom) for ~5 years and LOVE IT. It is always my go-to. I love how the whole thing is easy-to-clean silicone. It's very sturdy and durable. Highly recommend! The Ultimate Spatula from GIR: Get It Right Product Review |

They look exactly like the peppers I've grown in my Minnesota garden the past 3-4 years, except those pepper seedlings are labeled "Banana Peppers" when I buy them. Mine usually are fairly mild--just a slight bite. So what's the difference between "Banana Peppers" and Shishito Peppers? (FWIW, I do live in an area where there are lots of Hmong and some Chinese <as well as Somali, Ethiopian and lots of Hispanics>; few or no Japanese or Spanish, though!) APIUM: I live in a fairly small town (12K, but is the "shopping hub" for the rural county!) and can find coconut oil in the "organic/natural" section in the big grocery store in town. Specifically, it is by the baking supplies (Bob's Red Mill grains/flours, organic cocoa powder, Bragg vinegar, etc.) at my Hy-Vee. MsJessica: I can get a huge bowl of either meat or veg Pho (seriously, the bowl is bigger than my head) here in outstate Minnesota for $5.25 also.....and our rents are MUCH LOWER here (and our apartments are much larger). :-) Recipe: Vegetarian Pho (Vietnamese Noodle Soup) |

As several previous posters have said, GOOD beer (I'm not talking Bud/Busch/Miller crap) is best enjoyed at "cellar temperatures" (55-60 degrees F). Up until recently I haven't had a basement, so I've just kept my beers in a coat closet (eventually had to move the coats elsewhere, and it became a dedicated "beer closet" with shelving units!). I get frustrated with bars that serve beers too cold, and have been known to order 2 or 3 beers ahead, while drinking the first, so they might warm up a bit! BTW, I've been a homebrewer, homebrew judge and beer enthusiast for 20 years. Beer Pints: Does Size Matter? Chow |

Wrap bananas in a plastic grocery bag and put them in the fridge--their skin will take on a slight dark-ish hue, but in the plastic it won't go completely black. And even if the skins do go black in the fridge, the inside of the bananas is still fine. On the counter they can go from perfectly ripe to rotten mush in 3.4 seconds! Storing them in the fridge buys you at least a week or more before they are past their prime and relegated to smoothies or banana bread. Are There Any Foods That Should Never Be Stored in the Fridge? I buy most of my spices/herbs online, as well as specialty, import and "weird" items that I can't find in my little Midwest town of 12,000 people. The nearest city of decent size is 75 minutes away (and sometimes they don't have what I require), and Minneapolis/St. Paul metro is a little over 3 hours away. I try to keep shopping lists and buy when I get to the metro area, but sometimes I either can't wait or find prices even better online! Do You Buy Ingredients or Specialty Foods Online? |
