I dropped dead last week after drinking some stinky milk.... Well, not exactly... I've found that some milk that had not really gone bad can smell bad because of the cap/lid, seems to spoil there even when the bulk of the milk is OK. How Can I Tell When Milk Has Gone Bad? Good Questions |

Eat it! Personally I'm guilty of leaving things out and snacking on them for a makeshift breakfast. Pushing the limits... I found some overnight sushi made me feel a wee bit unsettled for an hour or so - but an another commenter pointed out - we are descendants of millions of years of folks without refrigeration. Emma, I've tried to be open minded about Meyer lemons - tried them a number of times. Seems I always feel - "OK, but this would probably be better with standard lemons..." Perhaps some of the comments to this will illuminate where the 'Meyer-ness' really shines. The Sweetheart Citrus: Meyer Lemons Ingredient Spotlight |

This a good thread about a complex issue. I have a handyman/yardman that is in the lower strata income-wise - his family has very, very little. I have tried to encourage him for a couple of years now to for him and his wife to do more cost efficient cooking. Sounds good? But there are many factors that go into the behavior of buying junk and relatively expensive products. Ignorance, lack of self-esteem, habit,... I have prepared food for them on occasion to demonstrate the principal - beans and rice with a side of steamed cabbage - super inexpensive - they thought it was great and ate every bite, yet the behavior persists. He drinks tea at my house sometimes, I make it from inexpensive, family size tea bags. He always wants more and yet continues to buy soft drinks at the grocery to take home. It breaks my heart to see him leave my house with so little money that he has worked hard for and know it will be wasted on junk. There are some of these behaviors that perhaps, cannot be changed. I believe that I have tried and failed. Recipe Ideas For a Cooking Class For Low-Income Adults? Good Questions |

YES YOU CAN USE IT. Aluminum reacts with caustics. The product of the reaction that are not soluble is aluminum oxide = Al2O3. It is the same oxidation product that is naturally coats everything that is aluminum. It is harmless. Anodized aluminum products like Caphalon are coated with the same oxide - it is formed under carefully controlled conditions and dyed to produce an attractive finish. Haphazard application of oven cleaner on your sheet produced the same end product in a less attractive form. Give it a good scrubbing to remove the residual oven cleaner. Throw it in a hot oven and don't sweat it. My Baking Sheet Was Cleaned With Oven Cleaner. Can I Still Use It? Good Questions |

Have really enjoyed mine for 35 years. BUT - mine is installed on a concrete slab, I know many horror stories about installation on wood-framed floors/subfloors - just not rigid enough. Mine is sealed with linseed oil and holds up beautifully! In a relatively small kitchen like mine I have found the easiest cleaning is just sit down on the floor with a bucket and a few towels and wipe it clean and dry - mops and sponge mops just seem like more trouble that they are worth. It is a lovely warm surface and the slight irregularity is more comfortable that a smooth surface. Would trade mine for anything. Eggs in that region - I have a distinct memory from Agadir Morocco, an Atlantic costal town, French restaurant, eggs in mayonaise... perfectly cooked boiled eggs, quartered and smothered in freshly made mayonaise. All at room temperature - no costal temperature. This was heaven! Eggs smothered in mayonaise? Well, I say heavenly because there should have been some guilt associated with such a dish but I managed to enjoy it anyway and forget about the lipid consequences.
