This is so inspiring. Although it is a gender-neutral space, it has a ton of personality and warmth. What is the paint color on the walls?

I have a collection of 1950s cookbooks. They are relatively easy to find at thrift stores and used bookstores, and they are nearly always cheap.

I make a lot of beans in my crockpot and then use them for various dishes.

@Nerves is right about simpler being better. Most of my crockpot failures happen when I try to complicate things.

Oh, so what if Gwyneth is more privileged than most people?! All the name-calling is just ridiculous. Jealousy is not a flattering shade on anybody. This blog is about good food. This book is worth writing about if it contains recipes for good food.

When we lived somewhere where nobody wanted to visit, our guest room was a waste. However, now that we live in a place that people enjoy visiting, our guest bed is in frequent use. I doubt that we will ever live in such a spacious place that the guest room doesn't have a secondary or tertiary purpose.

I just got over food poisoning, and after that, soup was my best friend. It took a long time for my system to recover, and I found that small meals of soup interspersed with other plain foods helped my stomach considerably.

As someone highly allergic to bees, this makes me really sad. If I could, I'd keep bees myself. They're an important part of the agrarian ecosystem.

However, like earlier commenters have mentioned, some people are just malicious. Last year in Portland, Oregon, vandals destroyed an entire community garden for no particular reason. Lots of people in the city were outraged, and reached out to help those who lost their harvest and hopefully the same thing could happen in this situation.

Comparing yourself to other people (or measuring yourself by them) is always going to leave you just as unhappy as the author of this article seems to be. The author's criticism of the "radical homemaking" movement seems to stem more from her dissatisfaction with her own life than from some external oppression. If luxuries are so important to her, then maybe a career change is in order. It's hard to be content, and I'm sure if the author had a conversation with some of those SUV-driving moms, she'd find that they are deeply discontented too.
