A membership to a children's museum, science museum or aquarium can make a really great gift, especially from aunts, uncles or grandparents. We bought our nieces a family pass to the Boston Museum of Science last year. It was great free fun for the whole family for a full year. Well worth the money!

We have the same bathroom, but in teal/black. The toilet and sink we changed out for a white toilet and white pedestal sink and the floor tile is white and black now, too. We decided to work with an Art Deco look and we added a white/black shower curtain, a huge black art deco mirror, art deco style light fixture, and we have black and white prints of different art deco buildings/landmarks on the wall. My towels and bathmat are all black, too. I dreaded the bathroom when we bought the house, and now it's the room we get the most compliments on.

Skip Mike's Pastry! It's a tourist trap. A true Italian bakery stuffs the cannoli FRESH. Try Modern Pastry instead as seen on Lidia's Italy on PBS! The cannoli are divine...crispy shell on the outsdie and light lemony ricotta filling on the inside.

The Fort Point Arts Community at 300 Summer Street is a great place to visit. They also have open artists studios in the spring and the fall. http://www.fortpointarts.org/

In the summer months, the fast ferry to Provincetown is fantastic. Only takes an hour and half to get to P-town. Lots of great galleries, shops, and restaurants.

Congrats on your new house! I have a white/black kitchen as well, which our house came with. I painted the walls a light warm beige and added a glass mosaic tile backsplash in turquoise to just one wall behind the sink for a pop of color. We also changed out the knobs/pulls and changed them to matte black. It actually looks much better. A butcher block, some kitchen towels, and a couple of cute prints from Etsy later, the kitchen looks great.

First of all, I love the mirrors. You definitely should get rid of the palm tree border and take down the shower curtain door. I think a shower curtain rod with a nice crisp white shower curtain would look great.

I would also paint the walls a pale gray to tone down the tile and make the walls blend in instead of contrast.

Get rid of the bath/toilet mats and hang up some nice crisp white towels.

If it's in your budget, new light fixtures above the sink would look great. Those spotlights are a bit outdated.

I bought a Mitchell Gold & Bob Williams style knockoff couch from Rowe (similar to the Alex II), and it's not very good quality. We've had it three years and it's not comfortable and slipcovers are falling apart... Next couch I'm going to splurge and I'm going to buy the real deal!
