The politics behind changing the contents of school lunches is so convoluted that when you really look into it, it seems impossible to change the laws of what constitutes a healthy lunch (ex: most of them are based on the old "food pyramid" criteria and potatoes [i.e. french fries] are a vegetable). I attended the Just Food conference in 2012 and some of the sessions were really eye opening.

@Andrea Jane - your #5 cracked me up! I agree, vegetables are so tough. My significant other won't eat zucchini, spinach, broccoli, cauliflower, sweet potatoes, and tons of other vegetables so that's always a challenge for me.

Made this last night for dinner and it just felt like something was missing. The poaching liquid did very little to flavor the chicken, and overall it seemed like a ton of ingredients for something that ended up tasting quite simple.

If ever there is freshly whipped cream left over from a meal or a holiday, I'll sneak into the kitchen while everyone else is digesting and eat the remnants. Sometimes it's a spoonful, sometimes it's 2 cups... I finish it all. Then run my finger around the bowl to get every last bti. And now I'm ashamed.

That rule made me sit back and stare in shock. Who makes FIFTY TIMES their rent?! The only way I got around this is I moved to Astoria (a notoriously cheaper neighborhood) and I live in a 1 bedroom apartment with my boyfriend. I would never be able to afford it myself but with our combined incomes we're doing okay.

And for good measure, a SATC quote: "If there were unlimited apartments in New York, we'd all be single forever!"

I am salivating just looking at this dish. My significant other does not care for cauliflower but I feel like with all the other flavors here, he probably won't even notice the taste. It's worth a shot!

I love this post, and not just for people living in a new city. I find myself at 28 years old, living in the same city, but with most of college friends moving away. It's time to meet some new people and I could never really figure out how. This article is a great start!

I hate that weird, slimy texture they acquire in liquids so I avoid adding them to anything soupy. I sprinkle them on my peanut butter and jelly sandwiches! I like the crunch and somehow it makes the treat feel a little healthier.

I'm not sure I agree with your first commandment. Sure, a WalMart piece is not worth paying a lot for but if you like it and it's made of quality materials (and yes, some cheap furniture is) than why not buy it? Who else but you would know where it came from?

Also, curated means: Select, organize, and look after the items in (a collection or exhibition).

We use the term in marketing to refer a selection of items for sale and how they're gathered to present for sale. I think an apartment can absolutely be curated!

@Chef Winston, I am in your boat!!! It's disgusting, it's full of fat, salt, and empty calories, but once or twice a year I buy a tiny Stouffer's lasagna and I enjoy every tiny bit of it.
