Many people have a hard time picturing a Christmas without commerce, so make it easy for them:
Make an online wishlist and put up ideas that either would be objects you really want (you can specify the exact brand so that you get the greenest and healthiest stuff); or experiences like tickets to the zoo /spa/cinema, or baby swimming / baby massage / mom-baby yoga (or whatever it is that you can do around where you live); or purely non-commercial things like babysitting hours, cooking class from grandma, etc. That way your family can (in their own space and time) get acquainted with what you guys really want and need.

What is this drying you all speak of?

But seriously, what's with the germophobia? You should visit Europe to get cured. We like bacteria here, especially in cheese.

This would be a great thing to pop into the over after you're done baking something. You switch off the oven but it stays hot for a long time.

ginnielizz, I find that disturbing. No way I be rewarding kids for killing anything, much less teaching them to enjoy it.

We don´t have garbage disposals in Europe, so I can´t see why they should be so indispensable. Meat goes into the trash.

Hair dryers damage the hair, just Google that. And the heat aggravates the scalp: it dries out dry scalps even more and makes oily scalps freak out and produce more oil.

The green prize still goes to neem twigs.

I have plastic brushes with disposable bristles.
Also, my dentist said that we don´t need to replace toothbrushes as often as toothbrush manufacturers tell us to.

Isn´t washing yoghurt containers & co wasteful ? I mean, washing them together in a factory is way more energy & water efficient than washing each one individually.

In Germany electricity is way more expensive than in the states, so energy-saving outdoors lighting is the norm. In the town where I live they even have street lamps that cut down light pollution, meaning we can always see the stars.

Is Germany the only place that has REUSABLE BAGS ?
They have a zipper at the bottom, and are really easy to empty (much easier than a bagless vacuum).

I also think that garbage disposals are an American thing... never seen one in Europe yet. However, we do have washing machines in Europe. At least in Poland and Germany.

You can't put citrus peels into the compost, because something in them kills the good bacteria. They slow down the composting.
These are sohe great idea, but I think they could be easily DIY-ed. Especially the coffee scent diffuser, that could be replaced with a jar lid. The hanging thing doesn't make any sense, it'just going to get knocked off. The apple peel grower is cute though.

I totally agree you need something on the walls above the bed, but what bothers me is the red border of the carpets cutting the room into two. If the floor is pretty, I´d go for a smaller carpet in the middle.
