Does anyone know whether you can really grow ivy from a couple of small pots lush enough to create an ivy headboard of sorts on top of a frame like these windowpanes?

Actually quite nice when it's open. Probably quite energy efficient when closed. A moat would be funny -- especially if it were occupied by black cats. The best part is absolutely the closed-back-door-as-movie-screen.

I don't think the chair's the problem -- I think it's the rug. Get rid of the rug and move the chair out into the space a bit?

A favorite activity of our son at this age was to take all of the clothes out of a basket of laundry one at a time -- I periodically snuck some items back in so it took a very long time for him to empty it completely! In addition to plundering your house for lots of interesting objects to explore, you might also visit the kitchen section of ikea for bowls, spatulas, etc. One final idea -- smelling time! with the spices in your spice cabinet.

Seems like the consensus is that this is a lousy list, even if it does have pretty, albeit puzzling, choices. We are getting our three year old: a collection of hats (cowboy, construction, airplane pilot), a truck, colorful dominoes, a playtent, and a book of photographs of our year. We have the popsicle maker (it was a birthday gift for dad), which is a lot of fun (at least in the summer).

I assume modgepodge is not non-toxic/baby-mouth-proof -- so a good idea for older toddlers/kids, I suppose...
