Oh! I love this space. Reminds me of my loft living when I was a newlywed. The sleeping area is just perfect. I loved climbing into bed every night and never once thought about falling off (though it is probably because my husband slept on the outside!) I too lived on the first floor and hung heavy curtains to keep the New York noise out of the space. You have done a marvelous job! While I personally am not a fan of carpet in the bathroom, I think many are passing judgment too quickly. If the previous owner had lived in the house for a very long time, never updating or remodeling it, I can see why they were never bothered by the carpet. It is obviously cold there, as evident by the radiator in the bathroom and the kleenex on the toilet tank (which to me symbolizes more than a few colds). I can't imagine the previous owner ripping up the carpet just to have a stylish and modern tile floor which would be extremely cold in the winter. Once the new owner moved in, the carpet removal was more than appropriate....but don't beat up the former owner for having cold feet!!! :-) Before After: The Monet Mural Bathroom | Apartment Therapy Boston |

Seems like a classic tale of someone not "getting to know" their space before they start to "stage" it. I agree with some of the other posters....It does not seem to be a real home. We don't know anything about her. Does she curl up for tea and look out at the view, or does she invite friends over for martinis? There was nothing personal about this home. Some of the greatest house tours are where you feel like you really get to know someone just by looking at their ideas, decor, and overall sense of style. As Americangypsyliving stated, "You could just throw a mattress on the floor...." I think I would have preferred seeing just a mattress and the beautiful bones of this space, than the other contrived things she put in this home. That would have been more interesting than this 'showroom'. Polly's Charming Apartment in a Historic Mansion House Tour | Apartment Therapy San Francisco |
