tallguylehigh: not to be a debbie downer for your seemingly great idea, but insurance/liability issues on a place like this would be a disaster.

I like a combination of previous ideas: One shade darker and glossier than the rest of the wall. I'm imagining this in rich cocoa or cappuccino shades; something not too far off from natural colors of wood.

I need your help! I recently registered for the gorgeous Rosenthal Moon(solid white) porcelain dinnerware. However, I can't find complementary (and reasonably priced) sterling flatware to save my life. Anything in my price range tends to be all that formal, scripty, swirly Victorian nonsense.

I'm lusting over Georg Jensen sterling like Bernadotte, Caravel and Cypress, and Robbe and Berking sterling esp. Alta, Riva and Viva.

... but those price points ($800 for a 5-piece set) are way out of my league. I need something in the $200-499 for a 5-piece setting range.

I know Apartment Therapy has a mid-century modern bend, so I thought I'd ask you experts:
a) Any recommendations for sterling that would fit the bill?
or b) Should I just go with Georg Jensen stainless?

**endless thanks**

I would think this would be really hard to clean... gunk and mineral deposits would probably get stuck in the creases and corners. Great looking, though.

FYI: There's a nifty tool online called the Color Palette Generator (http://www.degraeve.com/color-palette/) that will break down the colors of a linked image into a simple palette of dull and vibrant colors. Here's what it came up with for the Caravaggio painting...

... not much different than your results, but maybe it would've saved you some time :)

Would this work as a landing strip table? I'm too lazy to look up the dimensions and attempt to imagine what it might look like.

I have two Vornado fans and just adore them. They're powerful, high-quality, and good-looking enough that they double as decor.

This one is in my bedroom. It's the louder of the two but, like homo_wner said, it just sounds like wind... not clanging, rattling, or industrial. I sleep with it on low (turned upwards to face the ceiling) and sometimes, when I get in bed, can't even tell if I remembered to turn it on or not.

This one is in my office. It oscillates and pushes more air than the other one, and is quieter. Not to mention that it's gorgeous! The reviewers on Amazon don't seem to care for it, though. I don't use it all day every day so it's possible it doesn't stand the test of time-- but for my purposes, I think it's fantastic.

When you need lots of stuff: Go for breakfast! Last time I went (in Chicago), $1.99 got you eggs, bacon, hasbrowns and coffee. Plus, getting there on time for breakfast means abiding by the aforementioned Rule #1: being so early that you essentially have the place to yourself, not to mention a little caffeine to expedite your shopping.

When you need to grab one or two things: Tuesday or Wednesday, an hour before close.

The flippy-clock screensaver post from this afternoon reminded me... does anyone know of a good website for downloading free, sophisticated, modern wallpaper/desktop themes? I could've sworn I once knew of a site for this (I even downloaded Eames chair icons) but I can't remember for the life of me. Thanks!

i was thinking teal, too, MamaChilanga! but something unsaturated, like Devine Storm or Devine Rain:

or something a little more blue, like this:

i'm planning a wedding with a mid-century "flair" and that greyed-out teal keeps popping up. such a lovely color and looks great with nearly everything it's next to.

I think you'd potentially only regret a color that demands attention or makes a bold statement, ie anything overly dark or bright. While I love the lime green idea (I used to have an office painted this color), that might be an example of a color that you'd need to thoroughly consider inside the specific space.

I'd recommend sage or olive green. Both colors match deliciously with a whole range of reds. Both can swing from serene/spa-like to modern and punchy, depending on your other decorating devices. And lastly, both colors are suprisingly great neutrals-- they'll suit black- or brown-accented furniture and decorations equally well.

Just my two cents. Have fun and good luck!

Anna in Newburgh: How did that work in your landing strip? I've had my eye on this for the exact same function but worry it might sit too low. I love the idea of storing boots, mittens, umbrellas, etc inside, though.
