These remind me of the children's book Bunnicula, about a vampire bunny who sucked the juices out of vegetables. He left behind ghostly white veggies with tiny tooth marks.

Very nice apartment. But I am distracted by the opening shot. Why would you wear those heels whilst lounging around reading? Propping them up on the windowsill like that looks like a great way to scuff the backs. That is all.

I agree with TSPINTERIORDESIGN that the word "curated" must go! It has a meaning that has to do with museums. It does NOT just mean "a nice collection of something." This drives me CRAZY!

Thank you for tuning in.

I am not a crazy hovering parent (I don't think), but I think video baby monitoring is da bomb. Yes, as Khinnj says you could do a "visual inspection," but that involves opening the door and having enough light in the room that you can see the child = a chance you will wake the kiddo up.

We have a Foscam camera and use aps on our iphone, Android, and PCs. It's true that it drains your battery if you use it just as a monitor (i.e., leave it on constantly so you hear if the baby starts to cry.) We usually use it more to check in to see what the wee one is up to when we hear him with our ears. Is he crying while standing up and chewing on the crib vs. crying while still lying down? I also use it to get my fix of watching him sleep when I'm traveling for work or out to eat and there's a babysitter at home.

Totally disagree that in an ideal world toddlers would have an adult shadowing them every second of their lives. It's good for kids to have a little freedom and be able to play independently without constant hovering (and without the risk of pulling a heavy TV down on their heads.)

Inpsired by earlier AT posts on this topic, but too lazy/uncrafty to make something like this myself, I bought a great jewelry display thingie on Etsy. It has hooks for necklaces and a sort of mesh thing to stick earrings into: http://www.etsy.com/listing/77776918/three-legged-race-jewelry-holder-8-x-10

I got our sofa cushions refilled at Spicer's Upholstery in Alexandria. They did 3 cushions (the ones you sit on, not the kind that go behind your back) for around $250 or $300. It is a friendly, family-owned place. I'm really glad we did it, it's made our couch much more comfortable and attractive. Good luck!

Speaking of multifunctional furniture, does anybody know where I can buy small cube-type things to use as coffee tables or end tables, where the cubes have storage inside but are not made of leather (or pleather)?

This is all good advice. In DC, a good place to get contractor recommendations is checkbook.org. Unfortunately it's not free, but it has a lot more info than Yelp. (I haven't used Angie's List so I can't compare it to that.)

Wow, SO impressed that you did all that wallpaper removal yourself. The finished product looks great. I love the wall color and am impressed with the boldness of the ceiling color.

Is the patterned wall behind the desk wallpaper, or what? Great place! My cats totally need one of those little cabins. :)

I second the warning to be wary of a too-light grey--we have a medium grey room (Benjamin Moore's Silver Fox) next to a light grey room (the color one or two lighter from Silver Fox on the same chip, I forget the name). The lighter one looks "dirty white" in a lot of lights, whereas the darker grey looks rich and interesting.
