I did this last year, but the molds I used had fluted edges (all I could find locally). They were super cute, but one of the moms called me later, laughing, to tell me her husband thought my candies were disgusting and tasted like crayons. Weekend Project: Make Heart-Shaped Crayons & Valentines |

We installed a half-door going down to our basement from the kitchen, where there was no door previously. To Rustypatina's point, our half-door locks from the downstairs side, so that an adult can reach over the the top to the other of the door and unlock it, but a toddler couldn't. Later when we're less concerned about it we'll just leave the door unlocked all the time. Alternative to Baby Gates: Half Doors Kelly Rae Roberts |

It's easy to wipe fingerprints off a cabinet. Less easy to keep a baby or toddler from pulling out wine bottles from a rack that is right at their level. Before & After: Play Kitchen In a Kitchen Project Haus |

I echo what others have said about the two zones. Our living room is long and narrow also, and we have it in three zones actually - one is entryway (because our front door is at one end of the long wall), one is "living room" and one is "play area." Here are some older photos of our living room and play area. Help With Layout of Narrow Living Room? Good Questions |

This might be something to DIY. For under $15 you can get a basic molded plastic booster seat that has two straps for securing it to a chair (one that goes around the back, and one that goes underneath). You could use a drill to make four new holes - two on the front and two on the back, and put the straps through those holes instead, so you could secure the booster around the bench front-to-back. We tried to move pretty quickly to the regular potty and a step-stool. But then we were constantly taking off and putting on a child-sized seat, which was also an annoyance. Potty Talk: 10 Best Potties |

We went the spray adhesive route (so at least we were still using the vinyl!). In my daughter's room we hung avalance above to cover the roller mechanism. Poor quality pic here. Yay or Nay? DIY Fabric Roller Blinds |
