I adore Jonathan Adler simply because he doesn't take himself too seriously. I probably tend to take myself TOO seriously, and so his items help me to remember to lighten up a bit. Just like JustJules916 said, I smile every time I walk in my home and see the few pieces I have from his collection (in my case, the menagerie collection). I agree with b77, it IS really difficult to get the right shade of turquoise (and photographing it is even harder!). I initially went with a few different turquoises/teals from Benjamin Moore, but one of my main problems it that the trim in my house isn't a pure white, it's more of a "sand" color (painted by the previous owner). Changing it isn't really an option because it would require not only painting all our woodwork, but also several built-ins and plantation shutters. Every Benjamin Moore color I tried simply looked too "bright" next to the trim. Color at Home: Best Bold Bright Turquoise Paints | Apartment Therapy Chicago |

I just wanted to add that I had the exact same problem- I painted my walls a deep warm teal and they show up as cold smurf blue in every single shot. I figured out the culprit is my off-white trim in the house- the auto white balance tries to turn it into a stark white, which affects the colors of the wall. Custom white balance is the way to go, but if I'm feeling lazy I just switch my white balance setting to "shade" and it's close enough. At least much better than auto! My husband and I were recently considering a bathroom remodel and were looking at the Godmorgon line, specifically with the sink that has two faucets (Odensvik or Braviken). We ran into a contractor who was eyeballing them and he said he was putting them into his newest homes because he loved the way they looked, but that the plumbing hookups are ridiculous. He said that they even had his plumber completely stumped. It has something to do with the way the pipes are situated and how the drawers closed (he showed us exactly what the problem was). My husband is reasonably handy (has installed vanities/sinks before and has assembled an entire Ikea kitchen) and he did say that if we went that route, he'd be much more comfortable hiring someone for the plumbing. So, just a word of warning. :) I have no idea if the same issue affects the singular faucet sinks... The Best Bathroom Products from IKEA | Apartment Therapy Chicago |

I love the blue in the living room. I just painted my living room a similar shade (only a little bit more green) and had been doubting my choice (I love color, but it seems like homes these days are going back to more whites/neutrals). I like sleeping on a lower bed because it makes me feel safer. My husband and I shared a bed that was tall and I used to have a really hard time sleeping until it dawned on me- I couldn't relax and get a good night's sleep because I was scared of falling out of bed! Love Flor. I've used it extensively in my house and it's held up to 5 (small) dogs no problem. I about died when one of my dogs got a hold of a red felted coaster- she slobbered it all up and got red dye all over my Flor tiles. Thankfully it came right out (with the help of a Spot Bot). My husband and I own an latex Ikea mattress- the Engenes, which we've paired with the Tolg latex pillowtop. We've owned this combination for about three months. I'm going to go ahead and admit I fell for the Ikea Latex hype and that once home the mattress wasn't nearly as comfortable as I thought it was going to be (especially compared to the floor model, but that makes sense considering hundreds of people have helped to break them in). I would absolutely hate the mattress if not for the pillowtop to go with. As it is, it's comfortable but not "heavenly". I did consider returning it but we live four hours away from the nearest Ikea and once unrolled it would have been nearly impossible to stuff back into our SUV. I agree with those that said not to paint the inside of the bookcases-my husband and I have an incredibly similar fireplace/bookcase arrangement to yours and when we moved into the house the backs of the bookcases were painted the same shade as the walls (with the bookcases being an off-white color). When we painted the walls to suit our taste, we also went with the flow and painted the backs of the bookcases. I couldn't figure out why it just wasn't looking right, until one day it dawned on me to paint the back of the bookcases the same shade as the actual bookcase/mantle. Makes everything look so much more cohesive. It was too hard to focus on anything with the backs of the cases being another shade. Creating an Attractive Display? A macrame hoop works perfectly to hang the ornaments (since it's round and metal), but the plastic ornaments at Target won't fit (the holes at the top of the ornament aren't the traditional metal hoop and the opening is too small). I exchanged them for some glass ornaments at Target and let's say it didn't turn out too well for me- the finished product looked AMAZING but soon the larger bulbs were popping off from the weight of the other bulbs on them (the fasteners at the top of the ornaments were incredibly flimsy, probably because they were cheap, so the bulbs were popping off leaving the fastener still attached). Shattered glass ornaments all over the place is NOT fun to deal with. I really wanted to use Target ornaments since that is what is on our tree and I wanted it to match, but it looks like I'll just have to find plastic ornaments elsewhere. I have always loved the Orbit armchair, but I'd also have to add the "oversized equator pendant lamp" to the list. It was the first light we placed in our new home, replacing the outdated 80's chandelier over the dining table. Everyone who visits us always asks us about it and wants to know where we got it. I think it's because it's such a simple statement piece, and at $200 I consider it a relative bargain considering its size. Best Buys at CB2 The Best of the Basics | Apartment Therapy Chicago |

I'm a proud mommy to five (small! I swear!) dogs and stylish rugs have always been an interesting quandary in my house. I found this faux bois rug recently at Target that I consider an excellent score: Apartment Therapy Los Angeles | Dog-resistant Decor Advice? Good Questions |

The Thomas O Brien towels from Target are heavenly, and don't seem to ever lose their softness. My only minor complaint is that they don't seem to sop up water quite as well and so it takes maybe an extra minute to dry off in the morning, but it's a trade off I'll deal with. Excellent recipe. My husband likes the taste of broccoli but hates the texture (weird, I know) so this recipe is perfect for us to share. It's so easy and simple to whip up (although I usually skip the onions and parsley) and even reheats well. I make this at least once a week! I also despise pinky/beigey bandaid colors, yet the few times I've tried to paint my walls something 'neutral' I've ended up with exactly that on my walls and had to repaint immediately because I couldn't function. Which is why I keep my wall colors nice and bright and that's that. I can handle picking out aqua blue. I can't handle the neutral thing. I have five dogs (they're small! I swear!) and so my husband and I are obviously not dogs-belong-on-the-floor-type people. We're both big fans of Room & Board couches because of their stain resistance (our last R&B couch still looks brand new after five years, without the use of a slipcover). I've also learned that all throw pillows that go on the couch/chairs must be washable and we keep plenty of doggy beds scattered on the floor (Gordmans/TJ Maxx always seem to have a great selection of solid colored washable beds that don't fight with our modern decor). And, wood floors are a must. Other than that, I decorate how I want and often people who visit have no idea that we have one yorkie, two chihuahuas, and two boston terrorists. :) Apartment Therapy Los Angeles | Decorating For Your Dogs |
