Don't listen to the haters. AT is just overrun with jerks. I really wish there was some sort of moderation or at least some "Play Nice" psa things on here. The bad attitude on here really ruins it for me.

Thaaank you for saying this! I was scrolling and scrolling and seriously thinking nobody was ever going to call this out. OCD isn't a cute quirk or organizing your meds and keeping a marker in the freezer. It's also not crazy. I know you posted this forever ago and I'm late to the party.

Wow, you guys must be really running out of article ideas. I can't remember how many times I've seen this hashed over, but it's certainly not fresh news....

Haha frenchcowgirl, so true. I just got a whole bunch of linens and glass jewelry dishes and random things from my grandmother. So if there are a few 50s/60s touches in my apt that could be why. I'm not the type to embrace pink. My mother painted my room pepto bismol pink when I was a kid...and to this day insists I asked for it...which I didn't. Anyway I've had enough pink for a lifetime. But I agree, I don't think American women are trying to revert to a 50s gender definition. Maybe we just feel comfortable enough to embrace our femininity and our freedom.

These are beautiful. What is so gross about taking the stuffing out of a fabric toy and reusing the colorful fabric for something beautiful?

I thought I'd never have a dog in the bed but my dog is my companion. He's always there for me and has been there for me when I otherwise would have been utterly alone. I keep him well groomed and he stays in the bed. Halfway through the night he tends to hop down because he doesn't want to deal with my feet. He's no more germy than anything else in my environment and does not shed much. Now if I had a human to take up space in that bed, then uh uh.

I have this furniture. I absolutely love it. I've dressed it up really well, I think, and have added a lot to it by the art I hang on the walls and the colors I use throughout the room. It all moved with me cross country. Everything Assembled, Disassembled, and then Assembled again. The only item that suffered was a bookcase and that was the mover's fault, not the weakness of the furniture. Everything else looks great and is sturdy. And I'm betting that person who's bed collapsed just didn't go to the trouble to get some planks cut to support the mattress. Those metal supports aren't really enough, but they want you to buy their support systems anyway.

Also some people send holiday cards not only for christmas but for the entirety of the holidays. So one card is sent out to wish a happy thanksgiving, christmas, and new year. Why not send them early? It's something off your to-do list, the people enjoy getting them.

I got a wall clock a while back just on a whim and it has turned out to be something I value so much. I put it in the bedroom on the wall opposite the bed so that anytime I need the time, I just look right up there. And I like the change to hands from digital readouts. Maybe I'm weird but it relaxes me.

Yeah if you read the post it says BROKEN radiator. And I'd leave it too, it adds visual interest to a nook that would really just be a vacant hole without it. Love the stool, though it might not be the most comfortable seat for more than a few minutes.

Mine is my alarm clock (and way more reliable than any other alarm). Not to mention when my husband was in Afghanistan it was my lifeline to him. Those once monthly 5 minute calls were the most important thing in the world to me. My phone NEVER left my side.

I think the point of the post was not to impose rules on how a picture MUST be hung, but to suggest a way of hanging them that maybe some people hadn't thought of or had forgotten was a possibility.

I love the idea of hanging something at pet level. Cuuute.

I love you Littlemisssunshine! You said what is always on my mind here on AT. This is such a wonderful site with so many great articles but it's so ruined by all these whiny, self-important, *really badwords*.

What is that phrase? If you don't have something nice to say, then don't say anything at all. Constructive criticism is okay but just because something isn't your taste or perfectly suited for you doesn't mean you have to be a jerk about it.

I'm also tired of people being tired of things. Sheesh let something be and appreciate it's beauty. You don't have to change your style every year or even every 5 years. Just do what you like.

I still don't have a place I can paint but when I do I'm gonna paint my bedroom a warm grey because I wanted it before I even knew it was a trend. I don't care that everyone else has done it, I LIKE it.

Just go with your gut and enjoy.

My entire bedroom is Ikea but I love my furniture and make it my own with my own accessories. Not to mention I'm poor and don't have the time to go thrifting and antiquing to find that special midcentury dresser or whatever. Just because Ikea is accessible doesn't make it trashy or ugly.

I HATE wearing shoes. Besides that, my husband and roommate managed to turn the carpet in our last apartment gray after only a few months because they thought it was too much of a hassle to take off their shoes before they got on the carpet. I don't know anybody who would be offended at the request (medical situations excepted, obviously it's not THAT big of a deal). I honestly wish more people would ask me to take my shoes off when I visit them. I might forget in someone else's house and I feel like here in America many people feel it would be an imposition to ask. I think it should be common courtesy, though.

I'm only 22 years old. When I was in elementary school we had wooden playgrounds and they were the best. I hated it when they started making everything out of plastic.

They removed the metal slides because people thought kids didn't have the common sense to test whether it was hot or not before sliding. They removed the wood because they were afraid of splinters (I NEVER heard of a kid getting splinters from the smooth wood they used. That's like saying your kid is gonna get a splinter from a chair leg.) And what about those geodesic climbing domes? Kids like to climb. No don't sent your preschooler or kindergartener on them but 1st graders and up should be fine.

And you can't expect to keep your kid on cushy plastic their entire life. Heaven forbid they get a scratch or break an arm. It's part of life, people.

My husband and I are moving back home to my parents' house at the end of this month. My parents are truck drivers so we'll have the house to ourselves most of the time, thank goodness. I don't think it would work so well otherwise.

My parents are awesome so we're not even paying rent but we will be paying utilities and keeping the house clean and looked after.

We might even be sharing with my brother if he ends up bunking there for a while too.

My strategy is going to be to keep things as lovely as possible and do small projects around the house so that my parents feel that we are an asset and not a burden.

Also, if you're a married couple moving home, remember to keep all arguments and disagreements in your own private space. Never bring them out to make the family feel awkward or to ruin their day. They don't want to hear your crap and it'll only make them want you gone.
