I love it. It's not pretentious, it looks like a real home, and it's cozy and inviting.

That seems like a lot more work than just spraying a rag with a homemade cleanser (or "green" cleanser). I agree with Christine.

I do wonder about the energy usage that first5times brings up. How much would producing and shipping cleansers and then laundering the rags be vs. buying a container of disposable wipes? If the wipes biodegrade, then is it really any worse than running a load of laundry to clean some rags that will eventually have to be thrown out (and will take longer to break down)?

A Buddhist monk told me that she takes a bucket and fills it full of ant goodies (a mixture of peanut butter and honey, I think it was) and puts it on its side. She then gradually leads them outside by moving the bucket. It may take the patience of a monk, but she said it works! I'm assuming she didn't have a pet either that would get in the bucket.

annabananarama, it's hard to get some people to sit still, even if it's for their own good! If she has a laptop computer or some computerized games, that might help. Maybe new DVD's? I got into crafts when I was laid up, like origami and latch-hook (remember those?), crochet, etc. You could learn something like that together.

Getting food delivered makes life easier, as Bee T. can attest to. Offering to run errands, or showing them how they can get groceries delivered online. Maybe give them snacks that don't need to be refrigerated, so they don't have to get up so often.

Love the photo with the Big Lebowski reference!

I've had to adjust my home many times due to injuries, now I use a wheelchair. I can try to answer any question you might have, I've probably had it before too. Number 1 tip would be to put some caster wheels under that bedside table, it'll be easier to move closer and out of the way. A small sideboard may give you more table space and a shelf. A laptop table might work too.

Love this place! If only all grannies were so chic! This is the kind of look I like best, one that says you have creativity and know how to thrift. It looks amazing and doesn't cost a fortune. I'm way more impressed when someone can pull this off, it's easy (well, if you've got the money) to just go out and buy stuff and arrange it.

The gray living room looks straight out of the "Mad Men" tv set. So cool!

I can't get over the awesomeness and oddness of the chandelier on the lucite boxes. Does the chandelier work? If so, how does that look? I think it would make some crazy shadows and stuff with the lucite boxes and all.
