We recently did this for my son's detective party and it was hugely popular with everyone!

The guests loved seeing themselves, Harris loved sending the cards and the parents got to see their children. It was a win/win situation!

I love the props she used!

We have the trough sink seen in a few of those pictures in our children's bathroom and it is wonderful! We are so glad that we put it in!

Thanks everyone! We love our bookshelves.

Paigerien- the shelves are deep enough that we could put several books deep or a large dictionary but it doesn't take up much floor space at all (it doesn't go out past the door when opened against the wall).

TexanHolly- We have several rows of chapter books so far (my daughter is 9) and it works and looks great!

It really is the little things that fill children with wonder. A little leprechaun left muddy footprints in our house on St. Patrick's day and the children are still talking about it (and they are 9 and 6!)

We got a mitten tree (it's a fun bright red!) from HearthSong and it has made all the difference! For only $14.95 we now have dry, in-their-place mittens, hats and scarves!

When we renovated our kitchen we put in step stools in the toe kick area under our cabinets (2 since we have 2 children) and I must say that they have been invaluable. The children are able to cook with me and do projects in the kitchen and when we are done the stools have an out of the way storage area. It's a win-win!

Yesterday, while dinner was being prepared, we read this book with the children and they then made their own "Awesome book of thanks." They turned out great and kept the children busy!

This is terribly, terribly disheartening. I'm a huge fan of picture books for all ages and I find it disturbing that there is a such a push for chapter books. Unfortunately, just because a child can read a chapter book (or be read to) doesn't mean that they fully understand and appreciate it. If you read a book too early you risk the child missing out on all the layering of the story and the details that truly make the story.

When I was teaching some of our best discussions and lessons were based around picture books. I now use them with my own children all the time and can't imagine being without them!

We have that kohler trough sink and absolutely love it. The black base is very easily painted!

I love a good birthday party and have personally spent a lot of time and effort on my children's birthdays but lately I've been feeling like so many of the parties (especially in the blog world- which I love) are so styled that they don't seem authentic anymore! And it also seems as if they are all starting to be very much the same! I love a homemade party because it's homemade. I will, however, always enjoy getting the ideas and seeing the beautiful pictures of everyone's parties!

We recently built a stage in our children's garden and on the fence behind it we painted curtains. It looks really cute and helps to define the area. Maybe something like that would work for you?

We have this wallpaper in our attic bathroom (it's part of our playroom) and it's a lot of fun. It looks great colored in or left blank!

When we did a bathroom renovation several years ago, we put in this very sink (the two faucet version). We absolutely love it! It's wonderful when our children are both getting ready for bed or trying to get out the door!

Thank you for the nice comments! For the sandbox cover we used a polypropylene mesh that has worked beautifully! For the sandbox we used plans from a Martha Stewart Baby magazine. Also, I have the original plans for the garden if anyone is interested.

Oh my goodness, how wonderful! My daughter just started a garden journal but it's not as organized as this is. I will certainly take note!

I love that she said that homemade cakes were a tradition in her family. It is in ours too and I hope that someday my children will say the same thing! How fun that her Dad even helped her!

Five years ago we planted a children's garden area and I would say that it has been the best thing we have ever done for our children! I got the plan from a children's magazine and it includes lots of different areas for play (imaginative), planting and learning. I and my children adore it! I posted the plans last spring but I would be happy to email them if you are interested!
