Ah...there's the rub. I think the idea is that you can store your cards for online shopping but can't use them in stores. Right now the only way to use credit cards via phone is through either NFC services like Google Wallet or apps like Square (which uses in store WiFi connections) or LevelUp (which uses QR codes) all of which require the stores to have these services.

Be careful which Velcro product you get. You really need the heavy duty stuff to make this kind of thing work. Took me forever to find the right one that would work in my car to mount my iPhone holder in my car. Some were too weak and some had awful adhesive.

Important question: how big is the plate?

I'd rather visual cues than weigh everything I eat. Not on a diet, so that would just be silly.

Wow... Nixon had enough trouble with his reputation and legacy without THAT being out there. Yikes.

Taste is a personal thing, I guess. Although, I'd love to see Andrew Zimmern try it on TV.

I hate to say this, but this may be the most compelling reason to NOT buy single serving coffee makers. That said, Keurig is pretty ubiquitous with K-Cups available at Dunkin Donuts, Costco, etc. as well as online. Unfortunately, I've had some experience with K-Cups and find that they brew a rather un-spectacular cup of coffee that wouldn't in any way compare with your Senseo. I'm sorry that you can't find the pods anymore. It stinks when something you love is no longer available.

Just like what you like. Don't worry about the trendiness. I find the hipsters annoying, but, on the other hand, a lot of what they like right now I do as well (good coffee, smoked paprika, converse sneakers). I didn't buy a straw fedora-style hat to keep cool on the hottest day of the year last year because I didn't want the hipsters to win. But you know what? So what? It was a nice looking hat that would have kept me cool. I forgot to embrace my geek and just like what I like without reservation and stop worrying about what others think.

This is insane. What ever happened to fair use? If you are painting a real person what else are you supposed to use for reference? The world has gone copyright crazy.

Not that I particularly dig the painting, but how would you enjoy it if you can't stand back far enough to see the whole thing?

Maybe I had a bad experience, but I had pour-over coffee at Blue Bottle in Williamsburg, Brooklyn and, to me, it was watery. I tend to describe it as "tea-flavored coffee". Now I've nothing against tea, but that's not what I was trying to get that day. To me, part of coffee is the mouth-feel... the fuller-body texture of a good cup of coffee should end up somewhere between tea and hot-cocoa. I'd much prefer a cup of traditional drip or the occasional french-press brew over what I had that day.

The problem with no front lawn (and I'm talking about getting rid of any greenery with a rewrite of the setback laws rather than ground cover in lieu of a lawn) is that in the NYC outer boroughs that equates to more flooding. New York used to have streams and meadows everywhere (Manhattan especially) and now that there isn't the city has to spend a fortune everyday to pump out rain drainage systems, not to mention the subways.

Plus, if you have kids, a lawn is a terrific and safe place for them to play. I'm always shocked at people who forget the needs of children. As interesting (and easy to maintain) as wild grasses, trees and shrubbery are, there's no substitute for a safe place to run around outdoors barefoot... a rare commodity in urban and pre-rural suburban America. Usually I'm in agreement with Pollan, but this time I have to respectfully disagree.

Well unless your monitor is unbelievably well color and warmth balanced, the will NOT be accurate representations of PANTONE colors.

By the way... what IS it with people in the past 3 years or so and PANTONE? When did it become hip? In my world, it is an expensive (but sometimes necessary) way to make sure a color is absolute. CMYK isn't as accurate, but that's what you can get without paying a lot more per print run. And you should always check a press proof anyway.

I use Shopper for food shopping mostly because you can sync with other users (like my wife) so you know what has run out. Also KitchenHelper, which is great for ingredient substitutions and Locavore for what's in season and the locations of farmer's markets in your area.

The Spanish to English and English to Spanish are not free. They are in-app purchases available for $4.99 each. At least until the 31st. Apparently that is the 50% off price. Can't see spending $5 to make a free app actually do anything useful. Cool idea with kind of a silly sales tactic. I think people would be more likely to get it if the app was $5 with one language free. As a free app it is kind of a digital paperweight.
