I'm a landlord for only the second time and my first was a tenant who stole my microwave and left roaches when he was forced to leave (because of legal issues all owners had to sell their units).

After that, I don't bother my current tenant who pays on time and has never had a problem with any other building occupants. Who cares what she does as long as it's presentable at the end of lease?

Not counting moves as a child- which weren't my choice- and the whole back and forth from college thing- also largely not my choice- I have moved 6 times since 2003. All of these were purchased homes.

This was due to taxes, neighbors, investment opportunities. I don't mind the moving but the closing fees alone could have totaled another move.

I use tin ceiling tiles across my kitchen work area

I painted my cabinets with chalkboard paint.
The inside is painted with magnetic paint and I use that one section of cabinet as a household organizer. I haven't had a problem with grease or dust, really.

Here are a few (not so great) pics

Yay! I grew up in Sherman and love that the area is finally getting attention.

I like the idea of the Ramen spoon/fork thing, but don't know that it's actually necessary. In fact, I don't think I'd ever use it.

I have a world map shower curtain from Target. It smells of chemicals and plastic, and I hate that, but I loved the world map and needed it bad. Course, after smelling the chemicals every time I shower, I've just used a scrim curtain with liner in my other bath.

I have a bunch of these from the useless Christmas/holiday/party gifts I get when people come over.

I use them as soap dishes, sponge dishes, and as a catch for jewelry in the bathroom.

I have this same problem!
A wide open basement area that I'd love to make a living room (huge doors and windows) but hideous ceiling tiles, holes in the ceilings and horrid panels!

I'm painting my ceiling panels wide, added pergo floors, and have yet to make a real decision on tiles. Ive started covering them in fabric, but don't really like the look so much anymore.

Selling also makes you realize not everyone sees your vision...

When I was selling, my agent actually told me to put $1200 into my kitchen because none of the prospective buyers "understood" the open shelving. I actually had to give a credit for something I thought looked much better than cabinet doors.

I just moved into a house with one of these ugly things! My solution? I got a tankless water heater. The debate is out as to whether its more eco-friendly, or even less so, but for my household of two, it works just fine.

I've always been a fan, especially being a travel journalist! I am looking for a larger one though, to possible resign this one as a guest bedroom headboard.

I moved to Staten Island for this very reason. Being born and raised in NYC, I needed a little more green but not a lot more commute. Now I'm happy to report a couple of huge oak trees right outside my office window that make the daily grind a little less so.

This is my first cure, and my goals are simple: fix all the mistakes the last owner left us.

This woman seriously did not clean her house in 17 yrs and we are left with broken furnaces, ripped up air ducts, clogged pipes, doors that have swelled beyond their hinges, and a strange wallpaper that follows you around

See what I mean?

Oh- to the poster:

It's also suggested that you leave the crate open when the dog isn't using it, place a few toys, or even food in there to make it more like a rest area and less like a punishment.

While I don't tend to leave my crew in crates when we are out, crate training is a widely used potty training method hinged on the (kind of gross, but effective) idea that an animal will not sleep or sit on its own refuse. After a few weeks it gets the idea to wait till the owner is home to go for a walk, or you slowly move the WeeWee pads out of the crate, into the house, by the backdoor, and the same idea follows.

However, this is a practice that can last from two weeks to two months depending on the animal.

Looking at little Nan in the photo, I'm guessing this is what our poster is using the crate for, not just for kicks and giggles while they are sitting home.

I have a lot of house guests stay over, and I like to buy beach towels.

They are long, but thing, and fold up easy to fit in my linen closet. Plus, they usually come in just about every shade known to man.
