I wouldn't call that upcycling, but it's an interesting reuse. Personally, I think I would be creeped out, though I have eaten in more than one church turned pizza parlor.

I would say yes! People like to gather around the kitchen, while still keeping an eye on the game/movie/music or whatever is going on in the living room. It's a great place to site for breakfast or to drink a glass of wine while someone else is cooking. We just have a mini bar (with no overhang) and some simple backless stools, and we still use this area frequently, especially when we have guests.

This is so cool! I love the simplicity of the space compared to so many of the over-the-top nurseries shown on this site. I think this room will be more practical, and yet the design packs a lot of punch. Well done!

I was please to see Coco by Goodbye Blue Monday on the list. I fell in love with her at the Renegade Craft Fair in San Francisco and ended up purchasing a version with strawberry blond hair (hair color, skin tones, and outfits can be mixed and matched) as a gift for my friend's new baby. The customer service, price, delivery time, and quality were all amazing and this gift was very well received. I just think she is so charming and a great value for a hand-made item.

Gevalia is programmable, very economical, and uses the cone shaped filters. I had one last about 4-5 years (though I had to replace the carafe once). I would still be using it except my in-laws didn't think it kept the coffee hot enough after brewing (they like their soup and coffee VERY hot), so they recently bought us the pictured Cuisinart model. I think it was $79.99 at Bed/Bath/Beyond and it also works just fine.

We also run ours overnight. It works well for us, because the dinner dishes are washed immediately before food has a chance to really dry on, and then the dishes are ready for a quick 5 minute unload before I leave for work in the morning.

It seems like it would be fun for imaginary play...waiting for a real plant to spring from the ground might take more patience than many young children would have, but this way the plants can pop up right away. It's sort of like asking, why get your kid a doll house when they could just be vacuuming your real house?

Of course, real plants are nice too.

This was deliciously different. We served it with a crunchy baguette and a simple salad of greens with white-wine-vinegar-dijon vinaigrette. Loved the simplicity!

A little late (and lonely) to the party, but I tried this recipe last night with a mix of brown and wild rice, topped with chicken. My husband and I both enjoyed it. The combo of rice and greens was a nice twist on the typical salad. Thanks!
