Anyone have any suggestions on where I might find some certified gluten free large tapioca pearls? I know most of them should be inherently gluten free - but it's nice to go with a safe option!

I do a trip almost every year with a big group to Lake Tahoe for New Years and here's a couple things we've made;
- Picadillo
- Fondue
- Bandits, which are sort of a camp meal where you wrap a chunks of veggies, meat, and herbs in tin foil and bake.

This year I had the bright idea to combine rhubarb with some meyer lemon zest and it made a fantastic jam - I'm pretty much eating it on everything now. Here's the recipe; http://www.glutenfreetravelette.com/blog/2012/5/8/rhubarb-meyer-lemon-jam.html

I'm here raising my hand and waving it as a somewhere between Gen X & Y garderner! I'm by no means an expert but boy do I love being able to grow my own food. I think one of the things that turns me off is these huge garden centers filled with oodles of plants that don't serve any practical purpose and there aren't a whole lot of good resources out there for growing things you can actualy use - like edibles or otherwise. I'm really not into roses or cultivating some perfect looking flower - and that seems to be a lot about what the mainstream gardening world is all about.
I think part of the difficulty with gardening as a Gen X or Y-er is the lower rates of of home owners in this terrible economy where we're all trying to pay off oppressive student loans. My husband and I rent and were recently given the okay by our landlords to put in 3 raised beds - so we've started a series on my blog to chronical our adventure in edible gardening; http://glutenfreetravelette.squarespace.com/blog/tag/edible-garden-project/

I have the same questions as Marni! I started my blog after taking a job that would have me traveling, mostly around the US, about once a month. But we also try to take at least 1 international trip per year, blogging about it has been wonderful for our family and friends and I'm really looking to connect more with the travel blogging community! This year we're off to France and Northern Spain and would love to find some recomendations.

I first converted all my dvd into DiscSox, but that still took up a bunch of space. We then purchased archival DVD storage sleeves (8 discs per page) and a binders from the Container Store to downsize our collection. Not only is it more visually appealing in 3 black cardboard style binders, but it takes up so little space!

While I really want to like the redesign too and appreciate all the hard work. I have to say i miss the links to the other AT sites. There are so many categories for browsing now, it's just a bit much if you're interested in all of the topics.

Also find all the differing fonts a bit of a challenge visually speaking.

Good luck on working out all the bugs!

Stuffing is by far, my favorite part of Thanksgiving. Growing up we always had homemade stuffing. In my college days I turned to the boxed sourdough kind. Now, being gluten free, I make my own from bread cubes made by Mariposa Bakery in Oakland and it's awesome.

I started a new job last year that has be traveling all over the US quite a lot, so I actually started a blog to catalogue all my travels while being gluten free. http://glutenfreetravelette.blogspot.com/

I also keep a list of all the gluten free friendly restaurants I've ever been to on a seperate page.
http://glutenfreetraveletterestaurantlist.blogspot.com/

Before I travel anywhere I do a ton of research online and make phone calls to find safe places to eat. Including the cards that explain my food intolerances here are a couple of other things that I do;
-bring lots of different food bars
-bring salad dressing packets, tamari soy sauce packets, and nut butter packets
-scout for organic, vegan, and vegitarian friendly grocery stores to stock up once I arrive at my destination (these tend to offer gluten free products)
-when eating out I stick to the safest foods possible...mostly salads with olive oil on the side
-try to stay in hotels that offer at least a refridgerator in the room, a microwave or kitchenette would be even better. that way if it comes down to it you can make your own food.

I'm currently preparing to travel around New Zealand for a month and I've compiled pages of restaurants and grocery stores to go to. I'm bringing a soft collapsable cooler with me to keep my non-dairy milks cool. And I'll bring a bunch of food bars, homemade GF cookies, and beef jerky with me.

Overall the two most important lessons that I've learned are;
1. Do so much research that it makes your hurt. Its so much easier to travel to a new place when you've already called, e-mailed, or confirmed that there are places you can go to eat out.
2. Never assume you will be able to find safe food, so always come prepared. (I've learned that nut butter tastes great on pretty much anything and food bars can save any bad day.)

Just one thing to be aware of is that depending on what burlap you use, it can shed A LOT! And the pieces that shed off can feel like short dog hair and is tough to get out of some clothes. We made a lot of burlap items for our wedding and each time our working area would be covered and clothes needed to be washed multiple time to get all the little pieces out.

Someone at the fabric store recommended washing the burlap before using it in crafting, but I havn't tried that yet. Might be something to investigate!
