My apt building in Chicago had this in the laundry room, there was a table which everyone knew to be the swap table, although never actually designated as such. I got rid of a lot of stuff that way and it was gratifying to see it gone the next day and know someone could use it!

My new building in Sherman Oaks, CA has a tiny shelf in the garage that seems to be the designated area for swapping, I wish it was bigger, but I've already snagged a cool 1940's army canteen and some vintage playing cards that someone left out for grabs...

Yay for recycling!

How does having friends keep you from being your own person? That, I just don't understand. If you prefer to be alone, that's just fine, but we are wired to seek connection with others because it's how we survive.

Introverts have it harder, of course. You kind've have to push yourself out of your comfort zone and make an extra effort to connect with people...

I don't think people should be calling this "UN-healthy" or dysfunctional, it's a choice!

To say that people who choose this arrangement are "selfish" or don't know what intimacy is, is just silly....My partner and I lived in separate apartments for the first 10 years of our relationship, and it was amazing! It just worked so well for us, but that doesn't mean it would work for everybody. :)

Sorry, I don't see the "artsy" in this house tour, the photos are terrible, what's with the shots of random corners and computers with cords hanging out everywhere? A cool stove doesn't make a cool house....

I was almost 29 and entering graduate school when I realized my good ol' futon wasn't quite going to cut it anymore with the long nights writing and researching. I finally decided I deserved my first piece of truly comfortable, adult furniture and bought a gorgeous mid century style sofa with chaise from room and board. I'm very proud of it and hoping it'll last for years to come!

I feel your pain. I currently have my room and board couch covered with sheets because of my roommate's cats, and they don't make covers to fit.

If you have the money to get one custom made, that's great, but otherwise I like the velcro idea. If it's self-adhesive or iron-on, it might not be too difficult to create something...

Clearing the clutter from a Hoarder's house against their will can cause severe emotional damage and has been known to lead to suicide. Hoarding is a very real mental illness associated with OCD and cannot be cleared away with paint colors and a professional organizer.

Our bathroom is unfortunately located in our bedroom. I always worry guests will feel like they're intruding on our personal space when they have to use the bathroom, but what else can we do? Bad design I guess.

Also, we have a fan in the bathroom which helps to drown out noises you'd rather not hear, but not everyone thinks to use it! I know bodily noises are a fact of life, but that doesn't mean I enjoy listening to my friends bathroom business....

Totally agree about the plunger! Especially if you are at a dinner party and have to bother the host to tell her/him you've clogged the toilet? ugh....

A hanging lamp would definitely brighten up the corner, Ikea has some nicely shaped paper options. Put the chair on the same wall as the fireplace, get rid of the basket, remove all the rubbish from the chair and maybe add a white throw instead of a slipcover. Add some plants in the corner, the taller the better, in simple white pots, also at ikea. :) The table seems unnecessary, but if you need to keep it there, put it under the window and keep it clutter free.
