What a cool kid! She looks fab and the decorations and cake are amazing.

I have had my McRoskey for about 10 years now and it's still great. I do flip the mattress about twice a year and I feel like it was well worth the money.

I have a lot of things I don't use but think.."oh yes, I'll put that on ebay"...but haven't. One of these days I will just snap and give it all to Goodwill and be done thinking about the money I didn't make selling it.

Call me crazy but I also liked the old backsplash and even corny faux-wood counter.

I don't think I would ever get out of that red lounger chair near the books!

Love the fireplace and molding as is - and I understand your love for color, but people also need a place to rest their eyes in between seeing the fab things you have.
I would paint the surrounding walls dark and maybe frame the photos you have on the mantle with bright colored wood frames - pick one or two colors that go together like red and pink or yellow and orange, etc., get rid of the top shelves on both sides and hang them there in tight groups.
Then make the lower shelves wood painted to match the wall and put books, objects there. I would probably get a minimal rolling stand for the tv unless you get one that could be wall hung incorporated into the shelves.

I stored a lot of things from my parents' house after they passed away and I put a big tub of the damp-rid crystals in there also which really helped and checked on it every month or so for the 6 months they were there. Also plan that the storage unit, if outside, will get very dirty and dusty so cover anything well if you need to.
