I don't really consider Danish Modern ethnic, though. I mean, I see folks with Tibetan prayer flags draped over said Danish Modern furniture, with no idea what they even mean. To me, that's like getting a tattoo in Chinese, Japanese, or Thai without double-checking the real meaning behind the characters. I actually bike to the metra, even though the cta is closer, and it's cut my commute in half. I don't know if that's an option for you, but I know a lot of people who do that, rather than try and catch buses to trains. Apartment Therapy Chicago | Mobility, Access, and Public Transit |

I would second sunan's comment by saying that if you got a simple white dresser that mimics the stolmen (and isn't see-through) one could leave the panels open to the window. But it looks really good, either way. Apartment Therapy Boston | Before After: Hiding the Great Wall of Clothes |

I belong in the "sentimental" group - I've had my bear (Mr. Ted Oops-I-Sat-On-Your-Face, or Mr. Oops for short) since I was 2, hard earned by stealing it from my newborn little brother, and since we moved a lot when I was growing up he's pretty important to me. He wears a very chic scarf I got from this random shop in Paris so even though my sister in law says he looks like he's dying of Kaposi's sarcoma I think he adds a special something to the bedroom. This looks like furniture you'd find at Coraline's Other Mother's house. Perfect for lounging in your garden full of glow-in-the-dark biting flowers. But I like it. Apartment Therapy New York | Shadowy Chair Sunny Longer Lounge from Moroso Outdoor Furniture by Tord Boontje |

My aunt used to have a thing for ducks. And then three christmases in a row she got only ducks, from everyone, so now she asks for books. Apartment Therapy Chicago | Marked by Friends Family: Gift "Themes" That Won't Quit |

I'm going to have to move out of Chicago pretty soon (for work) but I have to say that bar none, there is no other city in this country I would want to raise my children in. I agree wholeheartedly with mariekemc re: Chicago folks vs. people anywhere else - the only other place I've found folks as consistently awesome as Chicagoans is in Germany. Yeah I have one, and I couldn't get rid of it when I posted it on craigslist. I don't have anywhere to put it, so I ended up packing it away - I figure I'll get some use out of it once I move. But the light is hella bright, and I'm worried about what I'll have to go through to get the same sort of bulb once this one burns out. No question, I'm actually expecting that when my parents get too old to live by themselves that they'll move in with me. I've always wanted to live multi-generationally, and I think that everyone learns to live more responsibly when you've got people of various ages to take into consideration. But then again, one of my first chapter books when I was a kid was "My War With Grandpa" so yeah - that's what I'm looking forward to, once I have kids. My parents live in a 55 and better(!) community, so it's essentially not allowed. It's also in a state I don't want to live in, and they live next to someone whose email is something along the lines of ConservativeJohn@blahblahblah.com. So...yeah. Not happening. But the house itself is pretty awesome and nice, even though it's new construction. Apartment Therapy DC | Survey: Would You Move Back to Your Parent's House? The Washington Post, 8.9.08 |

I went with a bright beautiful green but the Chicago winter turned it into a cave. I'll use that color again, but probably in a kitchen-like area, and definitely a room with more direct sunlight. I painted it back to a bright(er) white and I love it the way it is. Apartment Therapy San Francisco | Survey: How Bright Do You Like Your Bedrooms? |
