@ LEX2190: That's not an Eames original Lounge chair. That is a plycraft (which you state) chair made in the style of an Eames lounge chair. Being annoyingly nitpicky, Herman Miller and Vitra remain the only two companies to produce authentic Eames lounge chairs.

If anyone is interested in buying that one, I can attest it is very comfortable. Its not exactly like sitting on a cloud like the authentic eames are, but its a good affordable alternative. I have that same plycraft chair & ottoman. I was lucky and got it for a steal ($75 for the set!!). I would love an original rose wood, but can't justify the >4k price tag :( oh well.

* texting has been around for a decade

When Not to Leave a Voicemail

@ Care_Bear... for reals! I think that the two camps come down to generational lines (& early adopter lines).
I agree that if you are calling a stranger, a voicemail is appropriate, but if its someone you know… voicemails are annoying- Especially the "call me back" ones.
no text messaging? Many phones are now smart phones with data plans and we’re really complaining about text fees (testing has been around for a DECADE)? In many parts of the world (Europe & Asia) it’s far cheaper & more time efficient to text instead of call- especially if you are only asking a simple question. No text then use google chat, aim or email- it’s on every smart phone. plus, it's cheaper to get less minutes for talk and unlimited text.
I personally don’t listen to voicemails because you basically gave me another chore. I will likely call someone right back instead. I use to be in the “no voicemail = unimportant” camp & part of me still feels that way, but I’ve gotten to the point where if you want me to listen to it in the next week you should probably send me a text message to let me know it’s important.
Also, how is ditching a mobile plan for a land line ever a good idea? You go from having the convience of mobility and being able to call people in case of emergency (like it you’re in a car or whatever) to not having that option & being charged for long distance calls. I use to have a land line in my old apartment and the only people who called that thing were telemarketers & political polls.

@LaceyLove & AnnaMaria Stephens:
I found this article interesting about the gender gap of income inequality. Basically if you are young & childless woman living in a city there are greater chances that you make more than your male peers,. Unforturnately, women do still make 80% to men overall. Gender income inequality is a more complex question than your given sex. Isn't also the life choices that are made. I'm not sure, but I imagine that it's still mostly women who take leave when a child is born & mostly mothers (though anecdotal evidence I've seen says this maybe changing) decide to stay at home to take care of their children if their means allow. Kind of off topic, but I do think its a part of the societal pressures of the woman in the relationship to keep house & take care of the kids.

@ ANNAMARIA
I'm sorry people are attacking the integrity of your relationship from one episode (though a very loaded one). One jerky comment doesn't make someone a complete unloveable -run for the hills & cancel the wedding- jerk. You seem nice and smart, so I'm going to assume that you have picked someone who is right for you. That being said, I agree with the basics of what everyone is saying... it's a partnership, communicate & do what is best for you. Good luck to you and your future husband on sorting this (and many more things) out.

"And I don't even think that cooking/cleaning is a womans job since I'm a guy and have done both for many years when I lived alone and everyone should be responsible for it."

You're awesome! :) That's really what it's about. Everyone should be responsible for it and if some one happens to do more- they should get some appreciation for it. If appreciation isn't enough, then maybe ya'll should consider hiring some one once a week or a month to clean & get over it.

@GNP: I totally get what you are saying and, on a certian level, I agree. Homemaking really shouldn't be taken so harshly on financial lines. However, if you are paying someone else to clean your house for you, then it obviously is a job.

Division of finances & homemaking are tricky.
I just got married (though we lived together before). Prior to our marriage all finances were separate, but we contributed equally to all expenses (by % of total income) & house work - we both work full time so we had the same amount of time to do house work. We got married & combined our money, but homemaking hasn't changed much.
It's striking a balance for all parties and doing what you feel more comfortable with. I hate dishes so he does them, but he hates vacuuming & cleaning the bathroom- so I do those. Also if someone happens to end up doing more work we always try to make them feel like their work is valued & appreciated so they don't begrudge being stuck doing it.That's worked for us so far. I thought the article below was interesting as far as finances go.

@pixiedust03: I've vacationed in Hong Kong, Chicago & NYC, am I to assume that because people vacation & see the best parts of a city- there aren't grimy parts? I'm sure the worst SF, NYC, Chicago or definately Hong Kong has to offer is euqal or more to what Baltimore has.

I live in sf, in a realitively chill hood, but where my husband works there have been mid-day shootings, needles stuffed in drains & he once had to call the cops for a woman who was stabbed in the stomach (this was at 7 am!). We've had friends pick off the street & half beaten to death b/c of gang initiations. Every city has it's share of crap. When i feel urban exhausted, I usually walk to Baker Beach or stay at a hotel downtown (to feel like a tourist). There are waay more positive interaction in my day to day than bad ones, so I try to focus on that.

I second the PS3! It's great. I'm not a gamer (my husband is), but I probably use it more than him for netflix & hulu. LOVE IT

I agree with Jasmine. The pictures are not fine for a house tour. Though they are nice vingettes, they do NOT showcase the apartment- which is the point, right? I would like to see proper apartment shots because her style seems interesting.

if he was a hoarder, his place would not feel airy. i like it! it show cases his personal style. with a lot of house tours i find myself thinking, "oh that's pretty, but this could be anyones house." that's not the case with this one.

for all those commenting on the fact that this is a "first world problem," i have one question. why are you reading this site? everything on this site is about first world problems. seriously! eames vs. knockoff or buying campers or Ikea bookshelves being made for decorative crap due to the rise of Ebooks or spending more on ecofriendly objects vs no ecofriendly stuffs... you get the idea. you think someone in a third world country is worried about Ebooks or knockoffs? clean water is likely their concern, but that's not really what this site is about.

@ Kaete - is it really that amazing who China doesn't care about trademarks/copyright/IP? Those don't benefit them... it's unfortuante, but hardly suprising.

@ ArtsyGirl - Sure they make "real" items considering all those companies contract Chinese factories to make their "real" items in the first place. Some are very good ripoffs b/c they are made in the same factory without the consent of the original company (Nike for example).
If companies didn't want the problems of chinese rip offs at all (especially for electronics) they wouldn't outsource manufacturing jobs out there as "punishment" and i'm sure China's gov't would start caring about IPs/copyright laws... but that'll never happen. manufacturing is so cheap there that it's worth if for the apples & the nikes in the world to put up with a % lost profit in some markets due to copies.

I agree with creativecoley on Compartment Life's comment. That seems like a scary mindset. I think debt free should be the goal and I applaud the sellers in working towards that. Sure a little bit of debt is the norm, but it certainly doesn not have to be!

why is this scray? it makes a lot of sense. organisms have a finite amount of enery at any given time. it takes energy for a plant to take up or "make" nutrients, but if it's been bred to produce more of itself (fruit) instead then it will divert the energy used for nutrient uptake and use it for growth/ yield.
